I saw the production "Allegiance" starring Lea Salonga and George Takei at the Old Globe, there are 3 theatres in the complex including an open air space.

Loved this production. Engaging personal story about low-wage workers in Boston trying to survive. Insightful and timely play, especially given the current political conversation today (although policy/politics is not overtly discussed in the play), and it provided an interesting perspective on those just trying to get by in America with the cards stacked against them. Moving, humorous, engaging, and entertaining. Highly recommended!

It's in a small theatre where all the seats looked great. A definite steal if you are under age 30 and can get $20 tickets, like we did, but I would also say it's worth full-price tickets as well.

You won't see better theater. The latest and greatest shows. 17 shows that started here wound up on Broadway. The big time, including How to Succeed in Business with Matthew Broderick, and Jersey Boys.

Saw the world premiere production of the new musical ALLEGIANCE. Very nice older theater building in the heart of Balboa Park. Lots of grand old buildings, fountains, nice landscaping in the park. Make sure to allow time on a nice evening to walk around before the show. We found free parking , not too close but the walk to and from was really nice.

For our introduction to the Old Globe theatre, we saw Allegiance. Wow! The experience was fantastic and I think the theatre helped in the enjoyment. I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the house and it has very good acoustics. As it is located in the middle of Balboa Park I felt very safe walking to the theatre from the car. The performance was riveting. The actors were talented and you could hear and understand everything they were saying or singing (they had remote microphones on also). The staging was very imaginative, minimal, and cleaver. I was often at the edge of my seat for this well written, well performed, well composed and interesting performance. Being of Japanese descent I could see certain members of my family in the traits of some of the individuals. So much so it brought tears to my eyes relating the scene to my family. I don’t know if they do it every night but the actors stayed after the performance and answered questions for anyone who wanted to stay after the performance. They also had a collection of artifacts and photos of the internment experience on display in a building adjacent to the theatre. Overall just a wonderful experience, too bad we live so far away or else I would attend more performances at this theatre.
