Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Public and private 3 hour sails aboard Stars & Stripes USA-11, the authentic 1992 America's Cup racing yacht sailed by Dennis Conner. Take the helm, grind the winches, or just hang on as this amazing high performance racer zips around San Diego Bay at twice the speed of the average sailboat. A truly unique and memorable experience. Soft drinks, water, peanuts, & pretzels are provided at no cost. You are welcome to bring your own camera, but a crew member will be taking complimentary photos & videos of all the action on board as well as the sights of San Diego Bay. After the sail, complimentary refreshments are served while viewing the days activities on our flat screen TV. The photos & videos will then be posted on Google Web Albums for free access and use. The total cost (no additional taxes or fees) of $125 for adults & $75 for children (5-18) is the best value and most exciting venue on San Diego Bay.

My 16 year old daughter and I couldn't convince my wife to go along on this great sailing trip, so just the two of us went. For the two of us it cost $182 and we were out for the better part of 4 hours, my 16 year old was half price.

Although we had a little difficulty finding the office near the Kona Kai Conference center, we did park in the Marina lot and USA 11 validated it for us -so parking for Free. The office is in a one story strip building east of the conference center.

They had a short America's cup history presentation before the sailing that we just caught the tail end of.

The sailing was great with about 15 other people on board. We all got to grind the winches - raising and trimming sails, and steer the boat. We also got a little tour guiding from the crew as we sailed around San Diego Bay. It was fun sailing up to and around the large Navy ships including aircraft carriers and dodging ships returning to port. I think we got up to 12.8 knots several times during the afternoon, great fun.

You don't need to bring a lot of gear (cameras, binoculars, and etc.). These all get stowed below deck anyway and the crew took hundreds of pictures that were available to all the next day on Google photos. I'll try to attach some to this review.

They also had nuts, pretzels, and water / soft drinks throughout the trip. Towards the end they broke out some beer and wine for some of us.

We had a fabulous afternoon sailing with this gracious and efficient crew. I am afraid we have created a new expensive hobby for our son. He has been asking for sailing lessons and a boat ever since! We highly recommend this for a great activity for all ages!

If you enjoy being out on the water and want to experience something special, this is for you. My wife wanted to add a sailing experience to our San Diego vacation and we found this on tripadvisor. We read lots of great reviews (like this one) and decided to book the trip. The three of us (14 year old daughter included) showed up early (as their confirmation email suggested) and we met the owners and saw their brief presentation on the history of the America Cup and racing. It was so interesting!

The boat trip was so much better than I thought it would be. The boat was extraordinary - nothing like you will ever experience when sailing - and the journey was relaxing and fun. We all had a chance to crank the winches, pilot the boat and enjoy the sunshine. We toured all of San Diego harbor and saw many interesting sites.

This is a MUST EXPERIENCE. We hope you do.

Great experience....the crew and the boat are unbelievable....even if you haven't sailed before or are not familiar with Americas cup racing you get an immediate sense of history and a realization of how special this is. Being on Stars and Stripes is like being in a sports car waiting for someone to shift it into a higher gear. You get to handle the same wheel that Dennis Connor did when he and his crew so the Americas cup. We would do this every time w came to San Diego if we had the chance. 5 stars isn't enough!!!!!!

We had a party of 11 today on the Stars and Stripes sailing excursion. I am so glad we came upon this on Trip advisor, as it's not in any of the guidebooks. The captains and their crew (several of whom were volunteers because they enjoy sailing so much) were top notch. They educated all of us about the America's Cup races and the boats used. We thoroughly enjoyed our sail through the San Diego Harbor. 8 thrill-seeking teenagers were engaged , as were people of all ages on this excursion. This sail was way better than any "booze-cruise" type of experience, in my opinion because it was hands-on, educational and interactive! The beverages provided were simply an added bonus! The price (especially if you're bringing the kids) is more than worth it, as they offer discounts for youth through the age of 18. A great afternoon for sailing fanatics and people who have less knowledge of the sport! You will learn a lot under beautiful San Diego skies.
