Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Public and private 3 hour sails aboard Stars & Stripes USA-11, the authentic 1992 America's Cup racing yacht sailed by Dennis Conner. Take the helm, grind the winches, or just hang on as this amazing high performance racer zips around San Diego Bay at twice the speed of the average sailboat. A truly unique and memorable experience. Soft drinks, water, peanuts, & pretzels are provided at no cost. You are welcome to bring your own camera, but a crew member will be taking complimentary photos & videos of all the action on board as well as the sights of San Diego Bay. After the sail, complimentary refreshments are served while viewing the days activities on our flat screen TV. The photos & videos will then be posted on Google Web Albums for free access and use. The total cost (no additional taxes or fees) of $125 for adults & $75 for children (5-18) is the best value and most exciting venue on San Diego Bay.

We arranged for a private charter with Capt. Lynn Hanna aboard the Stars & Stripes USA-11 last Wednesday, May 16th. It was an absolutely perfect day for sailing San Diego harbor, with sunny skies and 10 to 15 knots of wind. The boat is a pristine America's Cup race boat, sailed by Dennis Connor himself in the Challenger Cup in 1992. Everything about the boat was in perfect condition, and the crew was helpful, friendly, and very professional. Everyone on the boat got to participate as much or as little as they wished, and as sailing adventures go, I would have to say that this one cannot be beaten. We traveled the entire length of the harbor over the course of about 3 hours, and each member of the crew were able to fill us in on points of interest all along the waterfront. This is truly a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience not to be missed when visiting San Diego. I would recommend it to anyone, young or old, as you can participate to any level you wish, from not lifting a finger to "grinding" the main sail all the way up the mast, and driving the boat ! Go !!!

This is a super high-performance, impeccably maintained sailing ship with more square footage in just the mainsail than your average home (2500 sq. ft). My husband and I took our son and his girlfriend (sophomores in college) and all had a fantastic afternoon on the water on a gorgeous day - even saw some dolphins in the water. We're from San Francisco and are used to being on smaller boats where you really feel the chop of the water and get soaked with spray. In contrast, the Stars and Stripes gives you a super smooth and dry ride. You all get an opportunity at the helm, and can assist on the winches if you want a bit of a workout...or just sit back and relax. The crew is friendly and enthusiastic - just a great experience.

In San Diego, sailing on the Majestic Stars & Stripes race yacht is a must do experience. The trip stayed inside the bay so there were no waves, and no one gets sea sick. The crew did all the work and we got to enjoy the experience - or help out if we wanted to. Captain Hanna let us drive a little bit and it was surreal to drive such a magnificent race yacht, a yacht with genuine America's Cup heritage. I cannot recommend this enough - you will love it!

This by far was one of the best things we did while in San Diego. Being from Texas we would not have had a chance to do this at home. The crew was the best and spent a lot of time with my sons showing them how to sail. They are 14 and 18 and loved it! Captain Lynn was great and was a wealth of historical information on the America's Cup Race. The group was small just one other family with us so we had lots of individual attention right down to making sure I had my wine glass tended too.
If I returned again I would definitely do this again.
