Owner description: Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

“Love the Zoo”

We visited for one day and enjoyed every minute...we loved riding the tram and getting the overview of the whole park....was simply amazing. We also enjoyed the tour bus...only thing is you cannot see a lot of the animals. Thought it was a little overpriced but the fact that the tram and tour bus was included in ticket price made up for it. Find the online coupon saved us a couple dollars per ticket (up to 6.) Drink prices was also high but get the souvenir cup and free refills with your receipt.

“Food & Drink Prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

Went to the Zoo last week while vacation - snapped a few pics of the food and drink prices - thought it might be helpful - I know I was looking for them before we left!! We got by on a 10 souvenir mug (only refilled it twice though), 2 soft pretzels, a churro and chicken strips and fries - that fed all 3 of us for the day and was about $30 total. Chicken strips and fries were about $9.00 at the Koala area. Pizza was $9 a slice (and the slices were small) and hotdogs were 7 or 8 if I remember rightly. I think I saw a bowl of mac 'n cheese for $5.99

FYI - zoo is not as terrifyingly huge as everyone says- it was totally manageable - we did everything by 5 pm and were not particularly tired. The free bus ride was a nice 40 min. rest after lunch. The skyride was quick and kind of boring - long line. The place looks bigger on the map than it really is. We found many of the enclosures to be a little small and outdated (ie: small monkey had a huge enclosure, while some of the big cats and leopards were in tiny ones...)The bear enclosures were downright sad. We headed straight to the Panda's when the gate opened - ask a docent or volunteer to show you the short cut!! We were the very first ones there. You can get in to the zoo early, but you have to wait in the roped off plaza in the hot sun until 9:00 when the flock of Macaws does a fly-by, then the rope goes down. There is a short cut to the pandas through an aviary:) Our favorite animals were those we had never seen - the secretary bird, the anteater, the honey badger and tasmanian devil, the hyenas and the Koalas. Hope this is helpful - I can answer other questions too!

“Fantastic Zoo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

A great day at the zoo - lots of great enclosures and we loved the bus tour. It is always nice to learn more about the animals via a tour guide, and there is a lot of walking that comes with the zoo so it was nice to sit down to see the animals to break up the day. Well worth the visit.

“Great for families.....”

With young children, the bus tour was super as was the sky tram and shuttles around the park. Great food options as well.

“I'm not a Zoo fan in general...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

The San Diego Zoo is one of the best in the world for a reason. It still doesn't make me happy to see animals in cages for human entertainment, but this Zoo at least has roomier cages?
