Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. “Great Mix of Animals and plant life”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2013

We loved the place and it was well organised. I loved the way the park mixed the plant life in with the animals in an attempt to make the park self sustaining and create its own eco system. It was a very hot day so I do not recommend walking much especially if you are not very fit. My main disappointment is that some of the enclosures are still very old styled and in need of an upgrade. Also disappointed that at the front entrance we had to pay extra for my daughter (we had brought the tickets in NZ) because it was free for children in October. However, she was over 12 so it was not free? So in the end we ended up paying more and we cannot get our money back. Hope it goes to improving the enclosures.

“Kinda disappointed! ”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013 via mobile

Had such high expectations from this particular zoo but it was such a let down! It is all very beautiful, tropical, well organized and sorted - but lacked 'animal' content. Have been to much lesser known zoos that had much larger numbers of animals - tigers (white/regular, Bengal), buffalo, wolves, African elephant, wildebeest, ... Maybe I don't remember accurately but the animals too looked smaller than what I remember. I have seen orangutan much larger. So too gorillas.

Some positives:
1. fantastic volunteers and keepers- always helpful, cheerful and knowledgeable. Thank you all for your contribution.
2. Great facilities! Tour busses, hop-on/off kangaroo service,
3. The zoo clearly takes very good care of the animals. Well, actually pampers the animals.
4. Great overall entertainment value for children. Visited a day after Christmas - and the celebrations were done so well. Musicians singing carols, entertaining children - all very very nice!

Only negative: need more animals- buffalo, tigers, crocodiles, wildebeest, wolves.

Thank Woodface

“lots to see, horrible signage”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013

You really can't go wrong with the SD zoo.. it's famous for a reason! So many animals to see. We hopped on the 30-min guided tour that was included with our entrance fee to get a rough idea of what we want to see. The zoo is so big you really can't cover it all in 1 day without sore feet. We loved that all the animals were awake, unlike many other zoos we've been to!

BIGGEST issue with this place is the signage.. I'm not sure how many times we got lost, and the map was no use. We even had to ask someone for directions for a trail and even the guy was like.. yeah it's confusing.

“Nice but a little overrated and expensive.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013

Nice zoo, most animals easy to see. The bus tour was very informative. Park personnel were nice and friendly. You will get your exercise with all the hills. Loved all the greenery, cactus, bamboo plants. Not sure why the line to see the Panda exhibit was so long and disappointed we were unable to wait up to an hour to see the pandas. Felt like the lay out of the park was a little confusing. We have a zoo in Houston and I felt like it was comparable to this zoo so sorta wish I had not spent the $46 per person and chose a different activity to mark our brief day visit to San Diego. We were there the day after Christmas and it was very crowded. Parking is not sufficient for this zoo.

“Awesome Zoo!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013

This is a great zoo that is much more than a zoo. Their exhibitions are great and includes rare animals such as pandas, polar bears, kangaroos, etc. Its a day well spent at the zoo and they do have special holiday attractions as well. Visited the zoo during Christmas time and they had fantastic lighting throughout the zoo. You cannot afford to miss this one if you are in San Diego.
