The San Diego Zoo is world renowned for the variety of animals, the quality of its habitats, and its work in conservation. So much has already been said here, so there are few things I'd like to point out. The Zoo has a team of dogs that hang out with cheetahs. Almost all of these dogs are mutts who were found in shelters. Each dog is paired with a cheetah and they are gradually introduced. The dog provides companionship, comfort, and model behavior for the cheetah. Calmer cheetahs are better breeders which is important since cheetahs are endangered. You can see them together at the cheetah exhibit or you may encounter them taking a walk together with a couple of the staff. There are lots of opportunities to see animals interact with staff. We saw an elephant getting a pedicure. Finally, your ticket allows you to ride the aerial tram at no extra charge. It's fun and gives you a unique view of the zoo.
Do not miss the Zoo if you're in San Diego!
