Owner description: Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

“Awesome Zoo!”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Beautiful setting. A lot of hills, but there are also buses available that you can hop and off when you want. The animals seemed to be very happy with their environment. Definitely worth checking out...best zoo we have visited!

“a must see”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Plan to be here all day. My boyfriend and I arrived at 11a and stayed till close at 5pm and still didn't see everything. Loved seeing the Panda exhibit because she was literally right next to the viewing glass chomping on some bamboo, very cool. Polar bear, the cats trail all very good. Lots of walking so wear comfy shoes. This was the one thing I absolutely had to do while here and was not disappointed. Wish I had more time. Oh and the lions gave a really good how they were paying around the whole time.

“Fun for people of all ages!”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

My husband and I went to the San Diego Zoo while we were out in CA for a friend's wedding. This zoo is probably the best zoo we have ever been to; there are a ton of different animals that you wouldn't normally see at any other zoo (e.g. komodo dragon, green mamba, polar bears, etc.). Plus, it is huge! I would have to say that the size of the zoo is comparable to most theme parks like Magic Kingdom, so be prepared to walk and wear comfy shoes. This is definitely a must-see in San Diego, totally worth it!

“Pandas and koalas, but not much else you can't see at another zoo.”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

We enjoyed seeing the pandas and koalas, but otherwise, most of the animals can be seen at our hometown zoo in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It is very large and spread out and there are lots of double decker buses driving around the zoo, which seemed weird.

“Outstanding zoo experience”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Well laid out, an amazing animal collection and very educational. Recommend start with the double decker bus tour to get oriented; top right had the best view but try to avoid sets with the support bar if you want to take pics... It prevented me from turning several times so let travel partner take pics from isle seat (can stand when stopped). Wear comfortable shoes if you want o see it all!
