Owner description: Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

“Outstanding zoo experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

Well laid out, an amazing animal collection and very educational. Recommend start with the double decker bus tour to get oriented; top right had the best view but try to avoid sets with the support bar if you want to take pics... It prevented me from turning several times so let travel partner take pics from isle seat (can stand when stopped). Wear comfortable shoes if you want o see it all!

I live around here, and just recently went to the SD Zoo for the first time in over 4 years. I forgot how great it was. It's a place I'd recommend to all people who travel to California, or San Diego. So much fun and love the animals.

“Night time zoo is the BEST”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

The zoo is great year round ...even on Christmas Day. They're open every day.
However, the best time of the year is during the summertime when it's open late until 9 pm.
Even better, there's lots of activities to enjoy---- live band, acrobatic shows, hula hoop contest, etc...

It's my kids favorite place to visit.

“Will miss my babies”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

A beautiful selection of many, many animals. A tour bus. A stop and go bus. One or both is a good idea because it is a huge zoo with hills up and down, up and down. The animals looked very calm and happy. A vast array of monkeys and a very nice elephant area where they get pedicures. The panda was so relaxed sitting there stripping through the food, and the baby panda snuggled up in the tree. Not really necessary to try and see the whole thing it is probably too overwhelming choose your areas and enjoy.

The zoo far exceeded my expectations. It is the best I have been to. Somewhat hilly but lots a space so the viewing sites are not packed. It has bus and tour trucks for those who are restricted. Tough getting into see the pandas. Expensive park fee and food is high. But you have to go if U are in San Diego. Try the San Diego Go Card if you are there for 3 or more days.
