Owner description: Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

Great variety of animals. A bit hard for a youngster in a stroller to see---needed to lift him up to see over the foliage

We've been to many zoos around the world and this one is tops! Even though it IS a zoo and the animals are caged, the areas they live in look very nice and not too small. I'm an animal lover and feel so badly when they look sad or bored -- these didn't! Put on your comfy shoes because there is a lot of ground to cover (oh yes, there are trams!). Spend the major part of a day if you can.

We went here on President's Day and it was very busy with loads of children. It was still possible to get around though, even with the additional hazzard of the many strollers, though if you are without children as we were, you may want to visit at a quieter time. We had to wait a while for the bus tour.

As far as zoos go, I was a little disappointed by the lack of animals they have. A couple of zebra, three or four elephants, and I'm not convinced that the enclosures are really satisfactory. I mean you get lions who live in a pride and there's only one lioness and one male - that's not right surely?

It's not a cheap place to visit, but you do get a bus tour and use of the express bus plus airway safari in with the price of a day visit $37 each, and with all the ups and downs you certainly keep fit whilst viewing the animals.

You can't visit San Diego without experiencing the San Diego Zoo. This Zoo is a model for what all Zoos worldwide should aspire to be! They're constantly updating exhibits to make their animals more comfortable and to enhance viewing opportunities for the visitors. People can truly gain a new appreciation of nature and why we must save it from visiting this special place.
