Owner description: Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

Our kids are all now in college and we went and had a great time here. So much to do and see. Would go again in a heartbeat.

My girlfriends and I took a roadtrip down to SoCal from Canada last summer and thought it would be a fun thing to visit the famous San Diego Zoo. We opted for what they call the Backstage pass, it's 100$ but about 1-2 hours of one on one interaction with some of their most fascinating animals at the zoo. We had photos taken with the animals and were able to pet, "talk" and interact with them. It was by far, one of my most favourite experiences of our entire trip, which says a lot.

Even if you don't splurge on the backstage pass, the zoo in itself is a wonderful experience. The zoo is split up into a bunch of groupings which makes it a little easier to find certain attractions and animals. Tons of restaurants, restrooms and a few giftshops. I'd recommend allotting a day's worth of time for the zoo and a good pair of walking shoes. I'm sure it would be different with smaller children, we are all in our mid 20's and were POOPED after a good 5 hours here (including sitting down for some food). I would definitely come back here someday, especially when I have little ones.

We don't have any Panda Bears in our zoo in Melbourne, so this was a highlight for us. We spent the day at the zoo and really enjoyed what it had to offer. We had purchased the California City pass when we arrived in America and went to Disneyland which included the entry for the zoo - well worth the money if you go to Disney plus the zoo, universal studios and seaworld.

Plan a whole day - it is huge. Take a tram tour first to get oriented. Food frightfully overpriced.
