Roughly 1200 areas has something for everyone! From museums (even for young people), to gardens, to open areas for picnics and other outdoor activities, to the plays at the Old Globe, and finally to the Zoo (perhaps the best in the world). This is a great place to go. You shouldn't miss it.

Balboa Park was a lot of fun. This is a short public transit bus ride away for the downtown San Diego hotels. Really liked the Natural History Museum. It was far and a away the best of all the ones there. Great exhibits and great IMAX movies. The Science Museum was a little on the boring side for adults and older kids, a lot of the same attractions that you see at other places like Mobius and the IMAX movie was very old, Climbing Everest. If you are a transportation nut the Air and Space Museum was pretty cool. Some areas that were kind of boring, lots of models in cases. The best parts are the full size planes. Some said the Ripley's exhibit that you pay extra for wasn't worth it. The 4D movies at the Air and Space are fun, but not for the easily motion sick folks. The chairs move and they blow air and water. The movies are only about 15 mins long. One is 45 minutes long and you get to see all of them. I believe there are five total. Definitely get the GoCard for Balboa Park, you save a lot. Save some money and take your own food, snacks and drinks with you. You can send the whole day here as there 6-8 museums that you get access to with the GoCard. The only downside if you have to get through all of the activist outside the museums. The Chrishnas, Mormons, Christians and the Anti-Christians. Take advantage of the free park shuttle trolley. It runs every 10 mins or so. The park is huge so save your feet and take the free shuttle. There are signs showing you where it pick it up. There is an information booth near the Art Museum. You will love all of the early Spanish architecture.

It is so lovely and relaxing here. I walked mainly around the park, skipping the various museums, due to time. I was confused about the history of the park. There were no signs that detailed why any of it was there nor the history behind the beautiful views. There was one map kiosk, and we finally found a paper map in a small, quiet gift shop, tucked away in the United Nations section.

So many activities, that one day is not sufficient enough to explore. My kids age range from 10 to 2. Every one was entertained when we went. A small train museum, dinosaur museum, airplane museum and etc. plenty of space to run around and explore. Lots of restaurants to choose too.

Balboa Park is definitely one of the best spots to hit when visiting (or living in) San Diego! Check out their website to see if there are an special events going on (e.g. December Nights, summer concerts). Don't miss it!
