I used to live in San Diego 20 years ago. I was disappointed to see how run down the park has gotten. after noons the streets are parked full of cars of people who walk to work down town. The new dog park is all muddy. They need to put some grass in there.

We love the gardens and the wide open spaces. There are days worth of areas to visit. the Indoor and outdoor gardens are just beautiful, some of the unusual and most colorful California has to offer.

This is a wonderful park full of things to do & see. We didn't have time to stop & eat inside the park so don't know much on that. We went in April of 2011. I had to select a date below & it wouldn't go back enough to say when we really did go. But back to the park, the architecture is fabulous ! It was inspired by the temporary building they had there during the worlds fair. So when the fair was over they built buildings to match the temporary buildings looks but be sturdy. There's the zoo inside the park along with a wonderful art museum! And the FLOWERS! Oh the flowers at the entrance to the museums is so beautiful!!! Well worth the day there. Most of the things are free there. But what you pay for helps to keep something like this around. So in a sense it's worth the cost to whatever to go there.

In the centre of San Diego, Balboa Park is a must if you are a visitor to the city. There are so many attractions (including the world famous San Diego Zoo), and also places to relax. Many of the attractions are free, ubut several charge for entry, most of which are worth it. If you are visiting on a Sunday, make sure you try the free organ concert at 2pm, and if you wnt lunch beforehand, have lunch at the Prado restaurant - it's well worth it.

Truly enjoyed strolling Balboa Park in the rain. It was a light rain and with the right equipment it was still a wonderful day.
