After a stressful and less than stellar stay at a convention/downtown hotel, I moved to the Courtyard Liberty Station the night before leaving for an early morning flight, given its proximity to the airport.

What a pleasant surprise! I wish I had stayed here for my entire trip to San Diego. The staff was friendly, professional and helpful. The hotel is brand new and has ammenities I have not seen in more expensive and higher rated hotels. Standard rooms have very comfortable beds, attractive and modern decor, a huge HD flat screen TV, single serve coffee maker and fridge, a clock radio with ipod docking station. The desk had a power strip and all kinds of video input options with cables. You could turn the TV to face you while working at the desk on the free wireless internet.

There is a restaurant in the hotel and a Starbucks/deli, but there are more dining options. It is a brief and safe walk to a new shopping center with a nail salon, massage place, a sports/pizza bar, Subway, TCBY, a wine bar and a good greek restaurant if you don't want to pay the high prices of the hotel restaurant. The hotel faces the bay and there is a lovely walking path - bring your running shoes.

Given all there is to do, one can forget they really came here to sleep - and a good sleep it was; comfortable beds and quiet. I concluded my stay with a free shuttle to the airport.

I was pleasantly surprised by my stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Great location for San Diego. Free parking a plus! Free internet in the rooms with easy accessiblity. Close enough to downtown and just far enough. New Courtyard and you can tell when you walk in. Staff still being broken in with it being opened a few months ago. Great access to bike and jogging trails along the San Diego Bay. Breakfast is not cheap; however, other options easily within walking distance and they have a deli on site as well with healthy options in the morning. We will be coming back!

What a great place.

This hotel is conveniently located less than 5 minutes from the airport. Yet, it doesn't seem like one of the same old airport hotels. They have gone above and beyond in making this place special.

The rooms are very stylish and clean. The HD flat screens make watching TV very easy from any point in the room. The internet worked great and the bathroom was also clean and nice.

The grounds are beatiful and there is a park nearby for walking and relaxing.

Although I only ate breakfast at the hotel one day, I will second what another reviewer said and say that the sevice was less than stellar. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as expected.

Downtown is close by and there is a grocery store and other places close by as well. I'm going to be staying here again for sure.

LOVED the brand new facilities - lobby bar, outdoor patio with firepit and water views, and all the modern conveniences - business center, sundries shop, deli, on-site guest laundry. I also loved the layout of the guest room with a fresh take on how to make the most of a small space without appearing crowded (clever placement of fridge, closet, TV, and desk area). Conveniently located, near new restaurants and shops, and less than 10 minutes away to Sea Word, airport, and Downtown.

The NOT SO GOOD - I could hear planes take off from the airport in Room 158. This wasn't as bad as constantly hearing a door open and shut loudly to a service area nearby. Poor service in the restaurant - We weret tired of standing around waiting to be seated, then helped ourselves to breakast buffet. Half-way through our meal a server finally acknowledged us and offered drinks. Had breakfast again the following day and same poor service (two different servers on staff). I discovered a billing discrepancy with my breakfast bills at check-out and received a comp for the first day.

  • Liked — New facilities, free parking (compared to $25 overnight parking in Downtown)
  • Disliked — New restaurant staff in need of training

Fabulous Place! We stayed here while in town for our son's graduation from Marine bootcamp. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The hotel is beautiful-brand new and gorgeous! The location is excellent, close to everything. The airport is very close but never heard a plane at night. We stayed in a handicapped room which was very spacious and well designed. The beds are very comfortable with lots of extra pillows. The grounds are well kept-great walking along the waterway-pool and hot tub were very enjoyable. We upgraded to a room with a balcony and view of the water for a minimal fee-it was well worth it. Can't say enough good things about it. We would definitely stay there again.

  • Liked — Location, appearance, staff, room comfort and affordability
  • Disliked — The air conditioner could be a little quieter and the handicap shower should have a handheld shower head

We spent 4 nights at the new Courtyard Liberty Station (Aug 8-12 2008).

The good stuff:

This hotel is brand new, and the facilities are gorgeous. It smells like new carpet when you walk into the loby (we're not used to that).

All rooms have a small (very small) refrigerator, huge flat panel TV, a pretty cool coffee maker, a good amount of space, and a large bathroom. The rooms on one side of the hotel are waterfront. The swimming pool is a decent size and it is heated so that you can even swim at night in San Diego without freezing in the cool air. The hot tub was very hot and big enough for six adults.

There are plenty of tables outside and it was easy to find a spot by the pool.

The not-so good stuff:

Many of the rooms do not have a view. The first room that we were given, which we were told by the front desk was a water front room, had a tiny balcony (maybe 18 inches wide) and it overlooked a terra cotta roof on the second floor -- no water view. We called the front desk and were immediately moved to a better room, with a view, and a much larger balcony. The bigger balcony had no furniture - which I found strange.

We were there for four nights and our room was only cleaned by the maid only twice. One of the two times the maid came was because we asked the front desk that day to make sure that our room was cleaned.

When the maid cleaned the room, the small bottles of shampoo were not refilled. The coffee cannisters that can make one cup each in the room were not replaced after they was used. We actually ran out of toilet tissue on one of the days without maid service.

The hotel ran out of towels by the pool on three occasions during our stay.

At checkout, I told management about our issues and no appologies were made. I was told by the manager that she had been "off" for the last few days. When I told her about the coffee she told me that the hotel may be out of the in-room coffee, but that complementary coffee is available to all guests in the loby and that I should have known that from reading information left in the room.

Anyway, we did like the hotel, regardless of our small problems. The location is pretty central. We were able to get to Old Town for dinner in about 10 minutes, Ocean Beach is about 15 minutes away, and La Jolla Cove was about 25 minutes away.

Our kids really enjoyed the pool and the firepit is a nice touch at night. I rated this hotel above average, because I think that the hotel has great potential and it opened for business only very recently.

This is a brand new hotel in a nice area near Point Loma. It is on an old military base that has been completely redone into a really nice retail/residential space. The hotel is in a very convenient location; plenty of surface parking. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The pool and hot tub were nice. There is a HUGE park and walk along the river immediately behind the hotel. Don't miss the opportunity to take a stroll around - it is wonderful! The room itself was tastefully decorated and everything was new and clean. The free internet was good; my only complaint was that the free internet was a little slow because of course they want you to upgrade to the paid internet.
