This is a quaint Argentine Steak House. It's just a short walking distance North from the center of Little Italy. Nice inside and the service was very good. There's a nice outside dining area as well. We bought a Groupon deal for $20 of food for $10 Dinner & Lunch (deal expires Dept 12, 2013.)
They have Argentine-style steaks, fresh seafood, traditional appetizers, homemade pastas and wines from Argentina.

A pleasant and tasty adventure!

As an argentinean, i have a fixation with steakhouses. Beef should be the national food of my country and since i live in Europe, i think a good argentinean steak is the thing i miss the most (besides the family, of course). The good thing for me is that there are many argentinean steakhouses out there, in many of the cities i visit often.

This is the case of "Puerto La Boca", an argentinean steakhouse in San Diego, that's owned and managed by argentineans. They are located in the Little Italy area, in the corner of Hawthorn and India streets. The service is quite good so i recommend you to make a reservation if you are planning to go.

My favorite dish there is the Entraña (a sort of skirt steak) but there are many other good examples of the typical argentinean Asado, from the starters like Chorizo and Morcilla (sausages) to other steaks like Asado de Tira (short ribs) or Churrasco (sirloin steak). They also have a very nice selection of wines.

And not only steak is what you are going to find here because they also serve many argentinean specialties like Empanadas as well as a very good italian-argentinean selection of pasta and pizza. I don't need to say that this is definitely one of my favorite spots in San Diego and if you are a meat lover and you go there, you will definitely become a fan (as several of my friends already did).

The best restaurant I've been to in San Diego - excellent food, service and wine with the added extra of live music. Some lovely unique touches such as a small 'tree' with branches brought to the table to hang my hand bag from! The chimchurri sauce was delicious and complemented the flank steak extremely well. Wine by the bottle reasonably priced compared to other restaurants of such high standard.

I've eaten at many of the world's top Argentinian restaurants including those in London and New York and this is by far the best I've been to. The Lomo steak with peppercorn sauce was literally the best meal I've ever had. Setting and service were also exceptional. This is a very rare find and fantastic value for money.

Review of 'Puerto La Boca' in the Little Italy district of San Diego:

I really liked this place and it was better than we expected. Took the hubby here for his 40th birthday, just the two of us. A recent vacation to South America inspired our visit to this restaurant.

~Great atmosphere -- not too pretentious, fine dining without being stuffy. Cloth tablecloths, fun colors and funky lighting fixtures, oil paintings, dimmed lighting.
~*Fabulous* live guitarist on a Saturday night.
~Food was excellent. We had the filet mignon and the halibut for entrees with an empanada and chorizo sausage for starters. Food included a basket of bread with delicious spreads and dips. Complimentary dessert for his birthday -- *delicious* caramel crepe.
~Authentic South American cocktails offered. We enjoyed a caipirinha and a pisco sour -- hard to find done right in San Diego!
~"Little Italy" is really lively and is a nice place to walk off your dinner afterwards.
~Decent service -- could have been slightly more attentive.
~Party room/area available for private birthdays, etc.
~Clean bathrooms. The modern glass door leading to the bathrooms really adds a stylish touch.
~The 'good mints' at the door (Not the standard red and white ones!)

~No private parking. Either be lucky enough to street park or else pay in a lot. (One of the downsides about downtown restaurants!)
~Slightly expensive, but cheaper than a regular steakhouse downtown.
~Thought the hostess could have been a little more professional in dress and demeanor.
~Uncomfortable chairs.
~Table was wobbly, but the waitress fixed it when asked.

Clientele: Couples of all ages, gay guys, girlfriends night out, double dates.

I highly recommend La Boca!
