I had a Coronado Island view King room, which provided a view over the north side of Coronado Island (i.e., the Naval Air Station, the USS Ronald Reagan Aircraft Carrier CVN-76, and the USS Midway), San Diego Convention Center, and the Hyatt marina area. The room was spacious with a resting couch by the large windows and a decent-sized bathroom that had a large, glass-enclosed shower stall. The bed was clean and comfortable. The room did NOT have a refrigerator (I used an ice-filled cooler instead) and the coffee maker was lousy.
The hotel is perhaps most convenient to access the convention center. It is also within walking distance of the gas-lamp district. There are a few quirks about the hotel, including having to walk outside to access the Starbucks and a Yogurt shop downstairs. Similarly the relatively small pool (with a small waterslide) is oddly located not just outside, but you have to walk through several doors to get to it. The restaurants are okay, but all the food I had was overly salted. The bar had a good selection of local microbrews - but with a short walk you can pay 1/2 as much for the same selection in the gas-lamp area. The fitness center was average, but the spa - if that's what one would call it - was poor. The spa amounted to a small shop that sells merchandise and locker room with a steam room and a massage table -- yes, that's it! If you're looking for something like the spa at the Hyatt or Marriott, you'll be disappointed. That being said there are two local spas that (while pricey) offer every exceptional service.
Note that rooms on the Eastern side of the hotel have a view of the container yard and the Navy yards.
