Owner description: The striking "White Buffalo" sculpture outside offers an inkling of the interesting exhibits inside this museum, including a steam locomotive, a Southern Cheyenne teepee, one of the largest collections of prairie memorabilia in the U.S. and a hands-on children's area.

I visited the museum with a private group for dinner and after hours visit to museum. Our dinner was excellent, staff very nice, but the best part was being able to visit the museum after hours. The museum displays were excellent, very informative, with many interesting artifacts. The museum went through time covering the history of Kansas and was terrific and easy to follow the layout. I especially enjoyed walking through the train cars within the museum. My wife teaches US History and I wish she had been there with me, we'll definitely have to visit again.

Prepare yourself to learn a lot if you are a frek about history. this place was very nicely decorated with many different facets of history. since we live in the midwest united states, our family was particularly interested in this section which was well displayed.

This is a great chronicle of Kansas, all the way from about 5,000 years ago to the 1980's. It is well-displayed and has interactive elements for kids. We only had 1 and 3/4 hours until closing time but I could have easily spent another hour there. Unfortunately the cost for adults is $8 and there is no senior citizen or local resident discount. I will certainly be visiting again.

This museum is a hidden gem. It is large and has interesting permanent exhibits, as well as special exhibits. Organized chronologically, it tells much about the history of the Midwest. Children will enjoy climbing aboard a genuine, old passenger train with multiple cars to walk through and an old-fashioned soda fountain.

Nice small museum, great for kids down to toddler age as there are age appropriate exhibits and play areas.
