I've stayed in hotels around the world for over 20 years. The Hotel Buckminister is the worst hotel I've ever experienced. For $400 a night I expected more than a hospital gurney and a box fan... I could not have moved to the Boston Sheraton fast enough...

Room was clean, beds were comfortable and the location is within easy walking distance of good restaurants, bars, and some Boston landmarks. There is also a pick-up point very close by for a Hop On/Hop Off trolley tour, which was great.
Some of the staff could do with a bit more training, especially one particularly unprofessional one at breakfast (who to my horror was training someone else into her bad habits). She was wearing jeans and trainers rather than anything resembling a uniform, casually threw the plates on the tables, and had private conversations within guests earshot while holding a cigarette in full view in a non-smoking hotel.
Breakfast was quite good though!
In general this hotel worked particularly well for our needs, at a very reasonable price, and I would be happy to stay there again.

Room Tip: One side has rooms looking directly over to Fenway Park

We were in town for the Run To Home Base as well as a Red Sox game. It was truly the best hotel given its location. Rooms were clean and the restaurant was really good. My husband and I have already booked again for September.

Room Tip: A/C was a little temperamental, but overall a very comfy stay.

The Buckminster is in a great location. Fenway Park is literally a block away. And this hotel sports quite a history. Unfortunately, it is a place that is so convenient and historic, it doesn't need to spend money on its rooms to keep them full.

The hotel itself does indeed feel "old" when you walk into it. A set of stairs take you into a lobby with an old wood front desk. The young man checking us in was very efficient and kindly took a moment to see if he could find a room for us that faced Fenway (he could not). We turned left into an aged lobby. It felt like something in an old apartment building with mismatched furniture and a vending machine area. We took a small non-descript elevator to the 6th floor and then walked through a maze of hallways to find our room.

We booked the two bedroom suite for three nights. Night one was $199. Night two was $499. Night three was $299. Given the nearby Residence Inn wanted more than $400 for one bedroom suites, we didn't expect luxury accommodations. We did expect a suite with some sort of shared living area. Instead the entrance door opened into to a short dark L-shaped hallway with four doorways off of it.. one to the only bathroom, one to the only closet and two opening to very sparsely furnished bedrooms. Each bedroom contained a queen bed, a nightstand, a desk with a chair, a cabinet holding a microwave, fridge, ice bucket and TV and a sink built into a very poorly built base. White painted pipes crossed each ceiling. The larger bedroom also contained a little table with two chairs. The shared bathroom was tiny and dated with a pedestal sink, tub and a toilet that loudly caught the door every time it was opened and closed.

We checked with the front desk and confirmed we were indeed in a two bedroom suite.
We were a bit disappointed but felt the location and the price made up for suite's limitations. The rooms were very clean. The AC worked well. And the hotel's staff was very kind.

My friend decided to stay a fourth night and downgraded to a single room. He was moved to the second floor. He said it was like being in a different hotel. His regular room was updated with hardwood floors, newer furniture and a larger remodeled bathroom. His room door even featured a brass knocker.

You can't beat Buckminster's location for a ballgame or event. It is one of three hotels we saw (Verve and Residence Inn being the others) that literally stands next to Fenway Park. Just don't expect more than basic comfort when it comes to accommodations.

If you are looking for a space you can share with others, you might want to consider AIRBNB. If you book early enough, you can get nice apartments just a few more blocks away from Fenway for the same or even lower prices.

Room Tip: Ask for an updated room when you make the reservation.

We had an extremely enjoyable stay at Hotel Buckminster. Located close to Fenway Park and good shopping and dinning is a distinct advantage. Hotel staff was courteous and helpful. Breakfast in the Fenmore Grill was a treat.
