“3.5 and great for Fenway”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

The rooms facing Fenway are a treat for out of town fans. I was so excited to observe the stadium as the lights came on before I walked the short distance to join the crowds.

We had two rooms plus a bathroom. The other comments on the age of the furniture are true, but I did not get any sense of mustiness or smell from our room (and I'm quite sensitive to bad odours). It was a comfortable bed, but the venetian blinds let in too much sunshine for a light sleeper. Also both of our two rooms had televisions so that would have been nice if we'd been travelling with kids.

There was a washer and dryer available to use with coin payments.

The breakfast included cereal with both full fat and half fat milk so I was happy. But there were also waffles, muffins, toast, fresh fruit and yogurt available. The serious undersupply of tables however is a bit of an issue.

We were only staying in Boston one night and were more interested in a good rate than in comfort. But the rooms were extremely comfortable, clean, and stylish, the staff was helpful and accommodating, and the price was right. Really, this was a great find. Next time I visit Boston, I'm staying here.

I love this hotel. I just stayed there for the second time and have already booked my third stay. It is clean, quiet and very affordable. I went to a conference where the discounted hotel rooms were over $400/night. I stayed at the Buckminster for <$200/night and took the subway to the conference. This hotel is really amazing for the price. The cheaper rooms are small but very comfortable. The bed was great, there is a desk and comfortable chair. There is a microwave and refrigerator. You get an hour of free internet daily and an option to buy more time. The breakfast is free and good. There is a business office where you can print out a boarding pass for free. It is only a block from the subway and is easily accessible to the rest of the city. There are many great restaurants nearby. Great place for any traveler that does not need a luxury hotel.

Recently stayed at the Hotel Buckminster with my son, while looking at colleges in the area. It was a great experience. Easy to make the reservation over the internet. The price was better than any other hotel I could find in Boston. We arrived and parked in the hotel parking garage ($28 per night) and didn't even think about the car until we checked out 2 days later. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Within minutes we were in our room, unpacking. The room (2 twins) was spacious, had a big bathroom, tv, micro, fridge, and wifi. No complaints. The beds & pillows were nice and comfy. The breakfast was okay. The location is great. The Kenmore Sq T (green line) stop is a 3 min. walk away. From there you can get anywhere around the city. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants and 2 convenience stores. BU admissions is a 5 min. walk away. In 7 minutes you can stand on the riverside and get a gorgeous view of Boston. Who could ask for more?

My husband and I stayed at The Buckminister for three nights earlier this month. While not in the immediate downtown area, the location is great for Fenway, and very close to the T, which will get you anywhere in the city quickly and easily.

We were upgraded to a king suite after having reserved a queen room. This was a nice plus, which was appreciated. Having stayed in the suite, we realized that a regular room was probably rather small.

The bed was comfy, the pillows were not ( no down or feather pillows available). Breakfast was continental, and nothing to write home about.

The Buckminster, however, is a good value in a city of very pricey accommodations. If you stay there, try UNO right next door for great pizza or just a drink and friendly helpful service.

The good first - spacious, clean rooms. Big bathrooms. Central location close to Newbury Street, and a nice walk through the common to the city, and easy access to Cambridge/Harvard.

The bad - DO NOT book this hotel through otel.com or myki travel, they advertise and sell triple rooms, but the hotel does not actually have triple rooms, so when you arrive, you are given a room with 2 queen beds. The staff organised a cot for us at no extra charge, but did not provide a comforter, just sheets and a blanket, and when we asked for a comforter, we were told that they did not have any spares. After 8 hours of phone calls to the manager and numerous conversations with various members of staff, we finally got a comforter, but only because they bumped into the housekeeping manager who had access to the storeroom! A bit of a saga really! The hotel claims it is not their fault as they have communicated to myki travel that they do not have triple rooms, but they continue to sell them. I also found it a bit strange that the room had a microwave and fridge, but no tea/coffee facilities, and no cups/cutlery.
