“Good place to stay but expensive.”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

We stayed at the Colonnade for one night when taking my daughter to school at Northeastern University. It is expensive but we enjoyed it's luxuries. We loved the rooftop pool including drinks and a light meal. The room had a nice view and was clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was a short walk to Northeastern University. Close to the subway. I give it 4 out of 5 stars because the bathroom had no ventilation and I did not like having a french door for the bathroom, which had a gap, allowing you to see out into the main bedroom. The do offer parking but it's $40/day.

Room Tip: They do offer package deals to get the price down a little. Ours included parking and some free dri...

Plusses: Location - back bay, prudential centre, copley square, T, Shaws supermarket, 10-15 mins pilgrimage to Fenway Park (GoSox!) - well-appointed rooms, decent bathrooms, great shower (turn handle to 9 o'clock), very pleasant staff, nice rooftop pool area. I liked the electronic "do not disturb/please make up room" device. Very safe area. Space in the mini-bar for your own stuff - none of that "charge if you move it" nonsense so beloved of some British hotels (and yes, I'm a Brit).

Minusses: aircon a bit noisy, but then again, do you really need to leave it on 24/7? Connecting rooms - hmmm! I asked to change room, and that was no problem. Wifi signal sometimes weaker than expected, but generally adequate.

Apparently WiFi is chargeable, which is unacceptable these days. I merely signed up to the iprefer programme at check-in - 2 mins work - and wifi charges for the week were waived.

Room Tip: If you are normally a city dweller, higher rooms overlooking Huntingdon will be OK, even if it seems...

I have stayed at this hotel 3 times and would likely stay again as the convenient location is great. Walking distance to everything and the Green Line T stop right in front of the hotel.

My biggest issue with this hotel is that the wear and tear in the guest rooms brings cleanliness into question. Each time I have stayed in the hotel I have stayed in rooms with stained carpet and dirt on the walls (I presume from suitcases rubbing against them). My first two stays I switched rooms, this last stay I didn't bother as it was only for one night, and frankly I have seen enough rooms to know that they are all the same. I wonder how management is Ok with the stains, and why there seems to be no attempt to remove them. Additionally, on this visit the air condition did not seem to work. It was very loud, and my room was fairly warm even on the lowest setting. Anyone who has not stayed here before should also be aware that the bathrooms are miniscule and there are no ventilation fans in any of them.

On a positive note the staff is friendly and efficient. The hotel is also extremely quite. I have never heard street noise of noise from the hall or other guest rooms which is a plus.

My hope is that management will read these comments and address the wear and tear as this hotel has the potential to provide be a top notch stay rather than a mediocre stay at best.

Room Tip: I found the rooms with double beds to be much more spacious than the king rooms, and the beds to me...

Hotel clean and tidy very pleasant staff, air con in room very noisy. Was shocked that we had to pay for internet. Disappointed that we could not sit outside anywhere to relax because the pool area was closed for the season and that is the only area that would have been private? Room was a good size very comfy bed. Overall nice hotel

The Colonnade is a lovely hotel. Location is also convenient. Details below.

Positives:
- Clean, Luxurious, Modern rooms
- Good location - 10 min walk to the main shopping areas, 5 min walk to Back Bay station
- Nice friendly staff - changed our room easily when we didn't like the initial room they gave us

Negatives:
- Can't really think of any!

Would recommend this to all.

It was just a string of bad service at every turn at the Colonnade. To start with I'd made two separate bookings through a third party website, but emailed the hotel to let them know I'd added the extra day and got a confirmation they would join our booking so we could stay in the same room. They didn't. And it took 3 separate conversations over the first day to get it sorted. We had room service actually knock and enter our room whilst we were sleeping with the do not disturb sign posted and despite not ordering any room service (will never leave the catch open again!), we hailed our own taxi whilst the door man chatted, and after talking to reception about the issues we were experiencing they said they would have the manager call us, and they didn't. The rooms are fine, clean, spacious .. But I can get that elsewhere. Also, the air con is very noisy. The incredibly poor service means I won't be returning ... EVER!

This hotel was fantastic. The rooms and amenities were perfect, especially the rooftop pool! The staff was amazingly helpful and courteous as well. The location could not be more ideal, as it steps from the MBTA stop and shopping/food/sightseeing.
