“Awesome hotel, great view & historical feel”
Reviewed August 1, 2014 via mobile

My wife and I stayed at the Marriott Custom House awhile back while in town for a Penguins vs. Bruins game. While our entire trip was enjoyable, staying at this property was certainly a highlight. The idea of staying in a clock tower is pretty cool in itself, but you can actually go to the top and see the inner workings of the clock & look out through the clock face. There is also an outdoor observation deck that offers great views all around.

We stayed in the hotel, not the upper floor villas so our room was pretty basic, but was up to par with Marriott standards. I read several reviews both before and after that spoke of noise problems, but we experienced nothing of that sort.

The hotel was also located close to the Aquarium T station, so there was easy access to the entire city.

Would recommend as a neat place to stay.

This hotel is perfect. What a great location. You can walk to everything from here. And the observation deck is fantastic for views of the city. We saw the most beautiful sunset from there. The suite is a fine size and very comfortable. Very clean. Walk out the front door and there is Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall. The waterfront is across the street. Took a ferry to Spectacle Island. Walked to Little Italy. Walked to Boston Common and the Public Garden and Newbury Street. Everyone at the hotel was so kind and helpful. Can't say enough about this hotel.

Room Tip: corner units and higher floors

We stay for a week 6-27-14 to 7-4-14 we love this property. its right in the center of everything Fanuiel Hall 2 minute walk you can walk to the common, and Aquarium ,many places to eat around the hotel. the staff is always there to help you. the only complaint i have is the $42 a day parking fee, but its not like you have a choice, there aren't any other places to park any cheaper. room was spacious kitchen non-existant but then most times your eating out. toaster, coffee pot, mw,fridge, sink, thats it.the only big complaint i have was the hotel is lit up like a xmas tree because its a Boston landmark, but all those lights makes the bedroom very bright, no room darkening shades or curtains. all in all we do love this place the few complaints are just minor.

What a good choice we made! We were in Boston in June together with our children aged 10 and 7. Firstly, to find the Marriott Custom House was very easy thanks to the clock tower. We arrived quite late from Europe but were welcomed and checked in quite easily.
Room no.1205 was south facing, had a little kitchenette with microwave, coffee machine and cooking utensils. There was a small dining table with 4 chairs and a pull out couch also in the room. The kids had their own TV, which they loved. Our bedroom had a very comfortable king bed. The bathroom had doors entering from both rooms, a shower in the bath with good water pressure. Amenities consisted of soap, shampoo, conditioner and body cream. The towels were super soft.
You had free WiFi, which really is a great plus.
The games room was in the clock tower, behind the clock and had an air hockey table, a pool table and you could get a Wii from reception with a selection of games. There was also a vending machine and a laundry with washing machines and tumble dryers, which were free of charge, WOW, have you ever, I thought that was very generous. If you ran out of washing soap (there were two sachets in the room for your use) you could get more at reception. That was so helpful.
The viewing platform was fantastic, it even had tables and chairs, so you could have a sundowner, enjoying beautiful Boston.
I highly recommend this hotel, especially when travelling with kids, the rooms are great, the staff incredibly helpful and friendly and Bonnie, the concierge has all the right recommendations to suit your needs. For us she recommended the Urban Cycle Tour, which was fantastic for the children, she recommended the Boston trolley tour, which was great for us adults and to eat, The Barking Crab: fantastic! We will come back to Boston and definatley back at the Custom House. Thank you for a memorable stay.

Room Tip: With kids, we would recommend a room on the higher floor. Our room, no. 1205 was great.

The Custom House was a fantastic choice for our 3 day stay in Boston. It was within walking distance from nearly everything we wanted to see while there. The villas were roomy and the views from the observation deck were outstanding. The clock tower made it easy to locate and use as a landmark while wandering the city.

Things I loved about Marriott's Custom House:

The staff! I'm riding down the elevator with a housekeeper not from my floor. She wishes me a good morning and asks if I need anything. If so, she will tell my floor's housekeeper. Reading alone in the activities room early one morning and a janitor comes in to vacuum. I offer to leave, but he says no, he will vacuum later. The concierge helps my family figure out a transportation problem. The front desk staff loans us umbrellas until we can got our own. Every single staff member I met was pleasant, helpful, and cheerful.

The rooms and public areas. The rooms were clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. The public areas were spotless. All the machines and equipment in the game, activities, laundry, and vending rooms were functional and well-maintained.

The history. The hotel is keenly aware of its history and not only respects it, but maintains and promotes it in a serious and accessible manner.

The special events. Rum & Revolution, costumed performers playing Revolutionary-era music and parlor games, were charming, quirky, and talented. The young man who ran the tea seminar was outstanding!

Add a great location with an amazing view, and Marriott’s Custom House cannot be beat.

Room Tip: East side for a view of the Harbor.

Decided on a summer staycation in Boston this year and was really glad with our decision to stay at the Marriott Custom House. Just like the other reviewers on here, we had a great experience with the hotel and staff which contributed largely to a wonderful trip. The location of this timeshare/hotel cannot be beat. You are walking distance away from numerous historical sites, the harbor, aquarium and plenty of great restaurants. If you get the chance, ask for a high floor and a room ending in 01 or 02. These have the best views of both Downtown and Boston Harbor. All rooms are 1-bedroom suites with a decent sized living space with a pullout sofa and small eating area with kitchenette.

The gym on the 23rd floor has fairly new cardio and exercise equipment, although with all the walking and exploring we did, the treadmill didn’t get incorporated as much into our agenda as it normally does on vacation. There are also 2 sets of complimentary laundry machines on the 24th floor, just be sure to bring or buy your own detergent etc. There is also a small convenience store right across from the building but I recommend taking the extra walk a few blocks further down to the 7-11 if you wanted to stock up on your basic snacks and drinks (they have a decent alcohol selection too). The observation deck on the 26th floor is probably the best attribute to the Custom House and we spent several evenings up there with a bottle of wine just enjoying the view and watching the gorgeous sunset. Take special note of the 24-hour in-house live television feed of the endangered Peregrine Falcons, which nest yearly at the top of the tower. It was also pretty spectacular to watch them fly around the observation deck as they were going back and forth to their nest.

The only downside to the hotel is parking (as is anywhere in Boston). If you have a chance to park at a T-station and make your way into the city sans vehicle you would be saving significantly on parking. Once you’re in Boston you will hardly need a car anyways and if you are flexible with your mode of transportation, get a Charlie ticket and ride the T and local buses at a reduced rate. The only time we really needed the T was to get to the Sam Adams brewery, we pretty much walked everywhere else since it was so convenient. If you do need to bring your car, try the garage on 75 State Street since it is a lot cheaper than the hotel parking rate.

Additional tips:
- After completing the Freedom Trail at the USS Constitution, take the $3 water taxi ride back to the harbor. The photo opportunities of the city are worth the price.
- If you’re looking for reasonably priced waterfront dining, try Joe’s American Bar and Grill. 5 minute walk from the hotel.
- For an inexpensive guided tour of the Freedom Trail, try Free Tours By Foot, which meets up at Boston Commons and ends at Faneuil Hall right next to the hotel
- Show your hotel key card at the New England Aquarium down the street for $5 off each person in your party.
