“Great hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2014 via mobile

This Marriott property is wonderful! Each room is actually a villa with living room, dining room, microwave, dishes, small fridge, full size coffee maker, etc. It's a Marriott vacation club location so everything is right there for your comfort. The rooms are large and clean. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and willing to bend over backwards to make your stay special and comfortable. The other nice thing is that it costs less than the Boston Marriott Long Wharf with so many more perks! Also, terrific location. You can walk just about everywhere and also very close to subway stations. Great choice for a Boston stay!

Right across from the "T" train entrance, Boston harbor and a great view of the TD Garden. Rich in history, and provides a very nice feel of times gone by. The breakfast venue leaves a great deal to be desired though.
Enjoyed our time here and the 26th floor all around view of the city made the stay memorable also.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Custom House. Not only is it beautiful on the outside, it is beautiful and comfortable on the inside. The lobby and first floor feel and look like a museum. They have s whole floor dedicated to entertainment. My three year old LOVED the jungle gym, blocks, kitchen set, horseshoe set, and many other things on the 20th floor play area. We also enjoyed the movie Tangled in the awesome movie theater on the 20th floor. There are so many things for your little one to do from free crafts, the movie room, and the play room. Every single employee we encountered was great. If we needed something, they were at our room in less than 5 minutes. Free laundry facilities on the 24th floor with the game room was amazing. I was able to wash clothes and not dread washing all our dirty clothes when we got home. The 24 hour store right across the street was perfect for our needs. The Super Duck Tour stop one is just a very short walk away and Faneuil Hall, with all types of foods if just a hop, skip, and jump away. If we come to Boston again, I would absolutely have to stay here again.

Room Tip: Stay in a room 1-19 so you don't have to get on another elevator to get to your room. Floors 20...

We stayed here for an overnight get away with friends last weekend. Easy drive in from the North shore of Boston, great location, and building has lots of character. The only downside is the price for valet overnight parking. It was $32.00. Actually for Boston that's rather low but still you would hope since you're staying at the hotel they would give you a bit more of a break.
The observatory on the top floor is well worth a visit, views are amazing in every direction. It's steps from Fanuiel Hall, the North end, waterfront and business districts are minutes away. Either by car, taxi or walking depending on how far you like to go on foot. No problems finding food or bars, they are everywhere and you shouldn't have problems finding something to suit everyones taste.
We all had a great time and my boyfriend and I will be going back in the summer for a little r&r when the weather is warmer.

That pretty much sums up our opinion about Marriott's Custom House.
The good things:
1. The building is historical. For history buffs such as ourselves, this was a true gem.
2. Our suite was beautifully appointed.
3. Location, location, location. Period!
4. The views are wonderful. We stayed at 1101 so the views weren't as spectacular as it would have been had we stayed at a suite facing the harbour. Nonetheless, we had A view that would have commanded an upgrade in other hotels.
5. The staff members that we dealt with were more than accommodating and friendly. Great dinner recommendation to Citi Landing from one. Plus a quick "I'm sorry, can we make your stay more pleasant by ..." response from another.
The bad things:
1. Yes, it is true. The hotel needs better sound proofing. We were directly below an Irish bar and could hear the noise from it. However, we are not light sleepers and so that really didn't bother us. I guess those in the lower floors would have a different opinion about it.
2. The 11 AM checkout time is rather early for us. Thankfully, we were allowed to stay through 1 PM. I think we shouldn't have had to request it.
3. The towels are placed on the toilet tank cover. I almost freaked out when I saw them. I threw them on the floor and requested additional towels to be placed on the couch instead. This could easily be fixed by placing an additional rack on the opposite wall. I hope Marriott is reading this so they could please take this suggestion. Dear Marriott: some of your guests are that OCD when it comes to things they use for their faces!
4. The shower in our room had low pressure. It was annoying but we didn't complain. I did mention it in passing when we checked out and that was when the staff gave her quick assessment of the situation and told me that she was giving me some Marriott Rewards points for the inconvenience. It wasn't really necessary as it was a minor annoyance. But it was that one act that made me think that I can overlook all my dislikes and stay in this hotel again! So I gave it a 5-star rating! Sometimes, it takes one employee to make it all look and feel right for me.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the harbor. Higher floors for less noise from the streets below.

The location is excellent and the room is fantastic, the king size bed is nice. My children loved the game room. The observatory was a plus. Staff was very nice too. We had a wonderful stay and no doubt will be back.

If you are in town as a tourist this is a great location. All the historic spots are within easy walking distance. If you want to travel further, the subway station is about 15 yards from the front door. If you want a view of the city and the harbor, you can take the elevator to the top of this building where there is an outside viewing deck around the tower. The clockworks are also exposed in the tower so that you can see the inner workings of this historic site.

For downtown lodging in Boston, the room rates are better than most. The rooms, or "villas", are roomy one-bedroom suites. There is a kitchen nook in the living room with a fridge, microwave and sink with sufficient kitchenware to prepare a simple meal. The building and rooms appear to be well-maintained, are quiet and the HVAC worked well. The staff here was very friendly and helpful. The bellman was very willing to hang on to our bags after checking out and we continued sightseeing. We went back later in the day to pick up our bags when we were finally ready to leave the city.

Although my wife and I only live about two hours from Boston, we decided to spend a recent weekend in the city and chose this location. We were very happy we did. Since parking in downtown Boston, including at this hotel, is very expensive we parked outside the city and took the subway into town. Boston is not only a very walkable city, it has a very good public transportation system that will get you anywhere you want to go including to the front door of this hotel.

There is no restaurant in this hotel, but there are many restaurants in the immediate neighborhood including two directly across the street. If you really want to eat in a hotel restaurant, you could walk across the park to the Marriott Long Wharf hotel, but why would you when some of the best restaurants in town are in the immediate area. If you want to extend your walk out to 6 or 7 minutes, you will be in the heart of the Italian North End of Boston which is one of the most happening food places in the city. I don't know the actual count but it seems that there are at least three or four restaurants on every block in the North End and the blocks are pretty small.

The hotel does have a lounge, where light refreshments are served in the evening and a buffet breakfast is served in the morning. We didn't try either, so I cannot comment on them. I am sold on this place as the place that I will stay whenever I need a big city getaway.
