Wonderfully located, the hotel is very luxurious and the room was very comfortable and well decorated. The staff is very courteous.

My husband, 3 month old son and I stayed here for 4 nights for a quick getaway.

The Taj is definitely not a 5 star hotel. The property is old and it shows. Our room (a 1 bedroom suite) required maintenance. The carpet was dirty and worn out. The bed skirt was filthy. The bathroom is small. The front desk/concierge took several calls for them to answer and the lounge has no access for strollers or wheelchairs.

On the positive side, the hotel's location is ideal and the beds are comfortable.

We booked a Deluxe Garden view room with Club level service a few months ahead of time. I grew up just outside of Boston, but now live about 7 hours away (driving) and this trip was to bring my daughter to her first game at Fenway Park. I'm not a world traveller, but I have stayed in my share of hotels, and this experience was unmatched in my travels. It was absolutely beautiful. The service was the best I've experienced. The view of the public gardens, the windows that open, the location between Commonwealth Ave and Newbury street...frankly, it was the experience of a lifetime. I know that it's rooms and decor may not be the norm in the 21st century trend-setters, but neither are the streetlights or the mansions on Commonwealth Ave. At the suggestion of the excellent Club level staff, we chose to walk Commonwealth Ave rather than call a cab, and it was everything I could hope my daughter would appreciate about city life. I and my family loved our stay at Taj Boston!

stayed here while it was the Ritz Carlton, we were upgraded to a suite from a room and it was beautiful and classic Ritz! The casual dinner in the Cafe was great as was afternoon tea in the French Lounge. Right on Newbury Street for shopping and the public garden. I would defiantly go back and hope that Taj have kept it up!

This is the former Ritz Carlton Hotel. It is a high class premium hotel and the service is from A to Z absolutely perfect.
The TAJ Chain wants to promote the fact of this kind of premium, palast like service and I am sure they have customers that go for that.
personally, I think it is a little bit to formal, but again, expectations are different.
if you are looking for a high class location in Boston, then you definitively are going to be happy if you select this hotel. If you want to go for business or if you want just to have a great location for visiting Boston, then I think another location would be more appropriate.
The Restaurant is fantastic, the Bar.... ok... there are more fun places to have a beer then in that Bar.
But again, tasts are different.

The Taj Boston is situated in the heart of the city. It's conveniently located across from the Public Gardens/Boston Commons, walking distance to Beacon Hill and right on Newbury Street. This was our first family vacation with our three year old and was a little concerned. We stayed here for three nights and continued on to Martha's Vineyard. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly door man who helped bring in our bags. Check in was smooth and efficient. The hotel was very accommodating by setting us up with a microwave, fridge and DVD player at no extra charge making it very convenient to travel with a young child. What impressed us most, having checked in late, we realized we didn't have milk for our son for bed time. We took a chance and asked the restaurant for a cup of milk; they pleasantly provided us the milk and did not charge for it.

Traveling with a child, we booked a room with two double beds. The room and bathroom was spacious and clean and overlooked the Commonwealth with a partial view of the Public Garden. The hotel supplied bottled water and chocolates with turn down service. Umbrella's are available and can be found either in the room or with the door man. In addition, the hotel had a stroller available; this came in handy during the Freedom Trail walk. Concierge was very helpful suggesting restaurants, etc.. Valet parking is convenient but pricey - although typical for hotels located within the city.

Overall, we received excellent service and would stay here again.

Friendly and helpful concierge staff, however, this is not a 5 star hotel. First of all, the hallway looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in months. It was filthy and disgusting to walk on. There is not enough sound proofing so it was very noisy. You can hear voices from other rooms easily, and doors slamming at all hours of the night. The most disturbing occurence was the fact that we requested a nonsmoking room yet there were strong smoke scents coming from somewhere and our room wreaked of cigarette smoke. My eyes were burning horribly from the smoke in the middle of the night, so we had to move rooms. There were only slight and unmeaningful verbal apologies, but for a 5 star hotel, they should have accomodated us pleasurably for everything we put up with. Very dissappointing. We will never stay here again.
