Stayed there with my husband over Labor Day weekend. I was so prepared/eager to love this hotel!
We booked it for its history and great reviews, and were perfectly willing to stay in a small hotel room --this woulnd't have been the first time, and frankly, tons of space isn't always the goal.
And small it was. But that wasn't the problem at all. The main problem was it was a bit more than dingy. Seriously. The wall paper was pealing, and the room smelled musty and moldy. The tiles in the bathtub/shower were also totally covered in mildew and that was disgusting. Oh, and one of the towels was clearly quite dirty. What a disappointment! I understand it's old, but that's no excuse.
Also, the service at the restaurant was terrible. Good food though. It was just such a shame!
This hotel has so much charm. The lobby is grand and full of history and personality, and the Last Hurrah was delightful for a late night drink. The location was also fantastic, hard to beat if you visit Boston for its history. But let's face it, the place needs a makeover, now!
