We stayed with our teenagers overnight in this beautiful - but slightly tired - historic hotel and had a wonderful time. The kids loved the old world ambiance of the lobby.
STAFF: The service and staff were excellent!
LOCATION:The location in downtown Boston is within walking distance of most things: The Commons, Downtown Crossing, Faniuel Hall, the New England Aquarium.
PARKING: Valet parking was $42 (but if you stay beyond 1PM the following day they only charge you an extra $12.)
BREAKFAST: Breakfast is served in the grand old hotel dining room (like a trip back in time with it's high ceilings and potted palms). We chose the buffet for $23 per person. The usual selection of cereals, fresh fruit, juices, scrambled eggs, bagels, smoked salmon, etc. but they also have a chef on hand to cook omelets or eggs to order. In retrospect - had breakfast not been included in our package - I would have chosen something off the nice A La Carte Menu which would have been less expensive. So only do the buffet if you plan to eat a lot.
BARS: Not very exciting. There are two bars onsite - the Last Hurrah which is open all day and has the atmosphere of a cafe and the Parker Bar which opens at 5:00pm and is, disappointingly not nearly as nice as one would want it to be - we were looking forward to an old fashioned romantic bar with low lighting, deep leather chairs and dark wood but, it doesn't quite work and feels more in need of an atmospheric update than anything else.
ROOM: Rather than two rooms we went for a 1 bedroom suite which had a king bed in one room and a pull out couch in the other. The most important aspect of this room was that there was no door between the bedroom and the sitting area so there was no privacy. Still, the room was spacious and the price was good for the space (520 sq. ft.). Select a high floor and ask for a view or you may find yourself looking out on a wall. Our view was very nice and we were lucky enough to have a corner room so there were views from every window.
BEDS: The King was incredibly comfortable! But the couch was incredibly UNcomfortable. The kids didn't want to share the couch so we also asked for a roll away bed which proved more comfortable than the couch.
BATHROOM: As others have noted, the bathroom was small but sufficient for our needs. Only we couldn't seem to get the plug to stay open so when showering the tub didn't fill up with water - we worked it out but I can imagine that this might really annoy someone paying so much.
HINT: Sign up for to be an Omni Select Guest - it's free and you get bonuses like free Wi-Fi, and hot coffee delivered to your room with a newspaper first thing in the morning - it's great!
I think that's it. Boston was great, the kids liked the hotel and the MIT Museum & the Mapparium (both great for teens). All-in-all I wouldn't book it again because it just seemed a bit tired to me but the price point for the room size (so we didn't have to get two rooms) and the location were good.
