“Old building noisy plumbing”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

The building has been renovated and offers a compact room which is OK. Not sure about the lime green bolster which has to be parked when you actually want to sleep in the bed! Unfortunately the noisy plumbing lets it down. Even though we were on a high floor it was possible to hear the effects from all around. The heavy doors are another contribution to noise.
Staff at checkin were very helpful, but we had to wait for someone to return to the desk when we checked out which was a bit disconcerting.
In summary, if you get a good rate and can cope with some noise it is a reasonable choice in an expensive city.
As well, the hotel is close to some great eating places and do try the cafe around the corner the Berkeley Perk Cafe, for good food and service.

Room Tip: I would guess that a higher room would be better

Got a great rate considering the location. It is a few blocks from the Back Bay "T" (subway) stop and also a few blocks from the theater district. It is located in a quiet residential area. This is an efficiency hotel - bed, TV, tiny bathroom with large shower. It's perfect if you just want a place to crash within the city. Husband observed that the TV was truly high-def, not just a flat screen. Parking is available at a reduced rate a couple blocks away at the 100 Clarendon St garage - easy access to highway.

Upon arrival we asked for, and were given, a free upgrade to a room with a good view. The room was a good size given the hotel's excellent location (2 mins walk to subway, 4 mins walk to great bars and restaurants on Tremont Street, 20 mins walk to Boston Common). The room décor was stylish and modern with a great (small but perfectly formed) bathroom. Staff were very helpful (especially with regards to parking, location of subway and nearby bars). If you arrive on a Friday afternoon, try your luck at free parking which is available over the weekend (but very limited) on Chandler Street just outside the hotel (but read all the parking signs very carefully as to exactly where you can park for free). This worked for us and I achieved my greatest ever reverse parking into a tiny space (at which I'm normally terrible). Anyway, you can pull up directly outside the hotel for 10-20 mins while you unload and get staff advice on where to park. Overall, great hotel.

Room Tip: Free weekend parking if you can find a space - ask staff for advice!

A friend and I came to Boston for a girls' getaway to see a concert. We needed an inexpensive option for a hotel within walking distance of the theater and restaurant where we wanted to eat. This was a perfect choice. All we needed was a room to crash in and this was just that, but with a European flair to the décor that made the size of the room seem modern, rather than dorm-like. We stayed in a room on the 5th floor that had two twin beds. The room was indeed tiny, but for the amount of time we spent in it, it worked for us. The staff was friendly and prompt in checking us in and were happy to give us directions to the restaurant where we had reservations.

Despite the description on the hotel's website it is not a "boutique" hotel. Granted, it does say that it offers limited services i.e. no restaurant or fitness center. The "modern" decor in our tiny room with vinyl covered headboards and giant bolsters didn't really work well, although it was reasonably clean, especially the tiny bathroom which had a wonderful shower. Also, there was a musty smell in the room, as if the ghosts of old smokers were lingering. Fortunately, we could open the window (an unusual feature in hotels these days). We felt that $225 per night was pushing the limit, even for Boston in late September, for our room with twin beds.

On the plus side, the hotel is in a quiet neighborhood in the South End, close to great restaurants, shopping, artists studios and transportation. The staff was friendly enough but more involved in what was happening behind the counter than who was entering their hotel. Ice and coffee could only be gotten in the tiny lobby/reception area. I always prefer a coffee maker in the room.
If you're not planning on spending much time in your room, this would be an ok choice. We would not return.

Room Tip: I've heard that top floor rooms are quieter and that rooms ending in "8" are corner ro...

The 4 days we spent at this hotel were enjoyable. Location was ideal and close enough to walk to all significant Boston sites or to T train. There are many restaurants and shops nearby or a walk to Newbury Street which is a little further as worthwhile for dining or site seeing. We thought room was fine for the cost although bathroom is small. Nice to have a window that opens. Why there is a $2.00 a day electricity surcharge is not clear. Staff were friendly and helpful and room was clean. There was no iron or fridge in room although there was ice in reception.

Stayed here for 3 nights in July and it was perfect for our weekend getaway. I agree, the room was very small, but for an older building that was renovated, it was well done with nice moderns finishes. The bathroom was another story though. There was no spot to put any of your things, so getting ready was a little of a challenge as was getting in and out of the shower. Two people would NOT fit in there.

The location was perfect! Close to the subway, multiple wonderful restaurants and in a very cute neighborhood. The bar in the same building was nice as well with a friendly crowd.
