We had a table of four on August 10th and had one of our worst dining experiences in 20 years. After our son discovered a fairly sized cockroach in his burger in disgust, the waitress couldn't believe her eyes and literally jumped back. His dinner was over as was almost ours though we didn't have any issues with the other dishes we had ordered but were questioning about the kitchen hygiene and how this could ever have happened.
We barely received an apology and were even more surprised when we received the bill, half of the burger price was accounted for! We had to complain we would not pay a cent for the burger and got an acid OK from the waitress as if we were wrong arguing. Come on, you find a cockroach in your meal and you have to pay for having taken two bites of it? This is big joke and very unprofessional.
Last but not least, we then received the bill already including a 20% gratuity. I accept gratuities are important in the US, but would not expect a restaurant to enforce it. It's up to the customer to decide how much he wants to give for the service received. We were so upset and paid whatever was presented to us. After thought, we should have complained one more time. We travel the world and have never seen such a rude service that lacks any empathy towards the client.
The place seemed correct and was packed with people, so this may have been an exception story but we wanted to share our terrible experience at the Navy Yard Bistro.

I find it extremely difficult to believe that a cockroach could be in a our custom made burgers that we buy from Pat Lafrieda meat who is a one of the top, if the most highly respected and best meat companies in the United States. The burger are pre made the day before in their local outpost and sent to us. Perhaps it was bug from a tree that you sat under on our patio. We have been open for 13 years and never had a bug complaint unless it was a rare mosquito on our patio. Jerk!

We were staying at a floating B&B nearby at the Charlestown Marina. We went to the bistro around 7pm on a Saturday night. It is on a quiet side street. Not like in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the North End. Outdoor seating seemed very nice, but was full, so we sat inside. We got right in. There were several available tables and others who arrived later also got right in. Inside is cozy. Small Bar, but it seemed nice too. Service was very good. I think our server had all of the tables inside! Glasses of wine were good sized and the artisan bread and butter with a bit of honey was tasty. We had the scallops and the pan seared cod. Both were delicious. They offer sides for an extra $5 each. I opted for the side of mashed potatoes with my cod, but I did not really need it...the cod came with enough to satisfy me. We had the ice cream sundae and the peanut butter pie for dessert. Again, both were great. Prices were very reasonable. We would definitely go back. We really enjoyed this bistro.

The Navy Yard Bistro is an intimate restaurant located, as its name implies, in the Charlestown Navy Yard. It has outdoor table service and a small indoor dining room and bar. The menu is unusual, with a few traditional selections and many interesting alternatives (e.g., lamb meatballs). Great service, excellent food.

I just don't get how a restaurant doesn't have bread "we didn't get our bread today". They have pasta dishes ,other apps that demand bread so go out and get some, go to the corner store. Anyway the food was very good, attractive restaurant with fair prices. No bread dinged one circle rating

Food was delicious and nutritious. it is located very centrally but perhaps a little hard to find at night. Friendly staff and modernly presented decor
