GREAT friendly staff. Its an old motel and much effort was spent to keep it updated and clean, and freshly painted etc. Lots of newer things in the room and bathroom. Room was actually larger than most. The age of the place was well masked however it had a musty feel covered up by much cleaning. Breakfast was much better than I thought it would be, however depending on time you went it was very crowded as the eating area was small compared to number of guests. Location is real convenient to train/subway.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent stay with us. I apologize that the air conditioner was not working properly and I will have it looked at right away. I am happy to know you were pleasantly surprised by the size of our rooms. We have taken great pride in keeping our property in outstanding condition, and although our building is older, our décor and staff are fresh and new. I'm glad to know you enjoyed our breakfast, and given the time of year I can easily see how that breakfast room was crowded. I have recently ordered trays to make sure guests have the option of taking items back to their rooms.

We stayed her because we could walk to our daughter's apartment from here. It is old, doors open to the outside (which I don't like in a city), dark and busy. That being said, it was fine for what we wanted...a bed to sleep in for one night that was close to daughter. It was in a nice neighbourhood, great local restaurants and other conveniences (CVS, hardware store, "T", etc. For Boston, the price was right also. There was a small kitchen area with refrigerator and microwave. It was dark and did not smell so great. The room itself was small with a King bed, but comfortable enough. The breakfast room was crowded and the staff struggled to keep the items stocked as people were busy eating. Selection was quite limited, but manageable. I would not want to eat many days in row there. There was cereal, yogurt, limited fruit, no tea. In the crowded space it was hard to get to toaster for breads.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were enthusiastic in fact. This included the young man we met at check-in, the breakfast ladies and the desk clerk at check out. One of the nicest hotel (really motel) staff I have encountered in a long time.
Later in the trip we stayed at a downtown hotel for sightseeing proximity, but if you are going to BC or the hospitals, this is an good economic/location choice.
I did feel badly when a man walked in as we were checking in and asked the room rate. He was quoted one $70 more than I had paid on line on the website. He looked so dejected and left as it was out of his piece range. Obviously the prices at this establishment, like most others, varies considerably. Not just for different days, but time of booking.

Stayed for three nights in room with a queen bed. The room was small and dark. Had to kill a couple of insects. They could use some updating. The train stop was 2 blocks away as well as restaurants and convenient stores. The staff was civil and helpful. From our room the ice machine location was too inconvenient. It was quiet and priced appropriately for the area. Continental breakfast was ok, but you had to get there early and the coffee wasn't worth drinking. I would stay there again only because of location. My daughter is attending BU in the fall and we were there for orientation so we got to see the area she'll be living in. If you are only going to use your room to sleep and not spend any time and be located near the train stop, you can buy tickets for it at the 7-11 store on the way to it, then I would recommend it. Boston is a great city!

Dear cmcgruder,

Thank you for you feedback about the hotel. We are sorry that you had problems with the guestroom! We are surprised to hear about the cleanliness and insects, as our employees work very hard to ensure that the entire hotel is comfortable and clean. Did you speak with a Manager about this? Again, we apologize and hope that you will let us show you that this is not typical of the hotel.

This property is a MOTEL. That being said, the room was spacious and very clean. I was, initially, concerned about the area, but it really isn't a bad area and it was VERY convenient to the "T". The staff was very friendly and helpful. We booked a room with 2 double beds. when we arrived they had us in a room with one King bed. This was problematic, as we were travelling with our 17-year-old daughter. Not only did they reassign us to a different room, they actually gave us a room with two Queen beds. So, while that was very nice and while we had a good experience, I am still confused as to how Best Western can possibly list this property as a "hotel" when it is clearly a MOTEL. I suppose they do this so that they can charge "hotel" rates. The price was way too high for a motel.

Dear Jacqueline D,

Thank you for your input of the Best Western University Hotel Boston. We are sorry to hear that you did not like the layout of the buildings and found our pricing to be high. We monitor our rates carefully and offer rates $100 -$200 less than downtown hotels. We even offer complimentary guest parking and continental breakfast, which is rare for Boston. We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences that this caused during your stay. Your feedback is very important to us, as our employees work very hard to ensure the happiness of our guests. We hope that you would consider staying with us again in the future.

Stayed here during Stanley Cup playoffs. Everything downtown was booked, so we ended up at this hotel a few miles out. We had 3 people in one room and were never cramped for space. Everything was clean, the staff was extremely friendly, and the breakfast was perfect. It is a 5 minute walk to the T, and it took about 20-30 minutes to get downtown on that, which wasn't bad at all. Overall, we were happy we ended up paying less and staying here than paying twice as much or more downtown.
