We stayed at this hotel after a 7 day cruise that ended in Boston. The hotel was very close to the port which made it easy to drop off our bags before venturing into Boston. Our room was a corner-unit and was nice, big, bright & clean with excellent city & bay views. The hotel is close to the Silver Line (public transportation) which takes you into the city and airport. Nice restaurants nearby with a Starbucks inside the hotel.

Room Tip: request corner-unit

Good points about this hotel are the very comfortable beds, quiet rooms and nice decoration. But some problems should be taken care of. The hotel is way overrated. Despite the price of the rooms, they charge everything including what should be provided for free - like bottles of water or wi-fi. Internet access is charged 16 a day extra. Unbelievable ! Do they know that any basic B&B now provides a free internet access ? .
Another thing is when you ask the Concierge about a nice restaurant, she says she'll book you in her "favorite Italian restaurant" or some other nice seafood places downtown. But some of the restaurants mentionned strangely belong to the same company and happen to be shameless overpriced places - typical tourist traps. Is there any hidden interest behind this help ?

My wife and I had a two night stay in this hotel. We were in town for a wedding. We flew in Friday. We had an early arrival. From the airport we opted to take a water taxi to the hotel. The water taxi dropped us off at the world trade center right near the hotel. From there you just have to cross the street to get to the hotel. The water taxi is $10 per person for one way. You can opt for a $17 round trip. We took the one way. and figured we would just take a cab on our departure. The cab would turn out to be much faster and cheaper. The view of the harbor and city skyline is amazing on the way with the water taxi. When we arrived at the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised when they told us a room was ready. We arrived way before check in time to get a jump start on our trip. We had a standard king. The room was super big. The bathroom was typical size. The room had a king bed, a work station, a full size sleeper sofa, coffee table and a chair. It was the biggest standard king i have ever stayed in. A marriott / Renaissance bed is the best bed you will find in a hotel. i never heard any hallway noise in our room. The view was just average but ok for us because it is not why we stayed there. The location of the Long warf is better than this hotel, but there is plenty to do around this hotel as well. Plus it is a short cab ride to the best spots. Or you could walk the two miles if you would like. We walked and regretted it. We happened to be up here when temps tipped 100 degrees. On a cooler day the walk would be great. The hotel is only a couple yearsw old and feels brand new. The breakfast in the hotel restaraunt was great. It is a bit pricey for the buffet but very good food. I recommend the french toast! The staff was very helpful and attentive. Wireless comes at a cost of $16 a day. the lobby has a couple computers in the lounge area where you can use the internet for free. They just ask that you keep your usage quick to allow others the chance to use it. There is also a business center that we had the chance to use a couple times. We never had to pay anything, but i have in othe Renaissance hotels. Valet is around $35 a day i think. I did not have a car. The hotel is only a ten minute drive by cab. the cost is around $15. I love Boston and love to stay in the city when we go. Unless i find a really cheap rate on a different hotel, I will stay at this hotel first. I strongly suggest this hotel for any travelers.

We had booked this trip with Priceline (name your own price) and got a fanstatic rate for the 4 days we stayed. The front desk staff were excellent. Our luggage was delayed 2 days, and the staff were more than accomodating to our situation. Very helpful with directions and suggestions on restraunts in the area. One of the days we stayed, the Stanley Cup had arrived in the lobby - surrounded by tons of people and security -an employee took my 2 boys strainght to the front to let them get a picture with it! Outstanding! The rooms were clean and modern. The lounge was always busy, however the hotel restraunt always looked bare (we never ate there). Room service is available and pretty standard as far as taste and cost go. The swimming pool and hot tub area was never crowded and kept neat and clean. Only drawback to the pool is that it only goes to 4ft deep. Location was on the waterfront -we walked everywhere or road the subway. Silver line stops right behind the hotel (also goes to and from the Airport for $2pp - much better than the $20 cab fare). Overall -fantastic stay and would recommend to everyone traveling to Boston.

I was able to compare this hotel and the Seaport Hotel (1 block away) in the same week and the two are very different and here's why:

This Hotel has a very modern but 'cold' feel as you walk in. And what's with the glass orbs behind the desk? Even the lobby bar has hard plastic seats whereas the Seaport has tons of squishy seating in there huge lobby area.

I think my biggest gripe with this hotel is NO WIRELESS! And you have to pay $16 a day for wired access-- c'mon even Super 8 has Free wireless and for $300+ a night, a staple these days is expected. And yes the Seaport has free wireless and its pretty fast (8 mps).

The Seaport's restaurant is much more quaint and the staff is friendlier. Again, it felt like I was in a cafeteria with it's modern decor in this hotel's restaurant.

Even though they are almost next to each other, the Seaport has the better location-- seems to be in the center of it all versus the Renaissance on the 'end' surrounded by parking lots and busy roads.

But in the end it's the little things like built in shampoo on the shower walls, little shoe polish sponges, robes, $80 cheaper per night, live jazz and a 7 Eleven across the street that makes the Seaport Hotel a clear favorite in my opinion.

I just got back from an overnight stay at this lovely hotel. Mind you I am native to the greater Boston area and until visited Liberty wharf earlier this summer, would have never considered this area to be a destination getaway. What has been done with the revitalization of this general area is impressive. Its gorgeous. The purpose of the stay was a fun Saturday night summer getaway with another couple who were celebrating their anniversary (and of course, not to drink and drive by staying within walking distance to our destinations). We had dinner (at Salvatores, excellent!), went to a concert at the Pavillion, and topped off the event with a little pub crawling after the show (which was sangria on the waterfront at Texmezcal on Liberty Wharf, wonderful view, wonderful sangria). First, one absolutely cannot beat the location - in the heart of the newly refurbished Liberty Wharf area, Maybe a block from the Pavillion, directly behind Legal Test Kitchen. Also an easy in and out to both the Pike and 93 after the 'Dig. The hotel itself was beautifully appointed, nothing short of what you would expect from an upscale hotel chain. Spotless rooms, granite counter top bathroom, nice fixtures, top end toiletries, extremely comfortable bed, awesome pillows and linens, nice large room, awesome waterfront view, flawless service, even reeses peanut butter cups on check out. Everything was in perfect working order, and exceptionally clean. The common areas were spotless, the hotel bar where we met up with our friends for our first cocktail late afternoon was lovely, and the bartender Sean who took care of us was just a doll, extremely personable.

Sometimes hotels have snooty or bad staff, and I know hotel workers work long hours, so I always try to turn a cheek when someone is a little pissy - but I have to say every staff person we encountered was both very well trained and very nice. We enjoyed a late full breakfast in the lobby restaurant on Sunday on checkout. Expensive ($50), but when you're getting up at noon, need some coffee fast and are hungry, it was great to have the option of just hitting the extensive breakfast buffet to take the edge off the night before before hitting the road. Breakfast buffet was yum, again a very nice server as well. Valet parking was the typical, overpriced valet parking in Boston, but it was handled very professionally and quickly by yet another very polite, well trained valet attendant. There is a public lot next door but its only $10 a day cheaper and not monitored. I have a new car, I would rather pay the extra $10 and have my car back without any dings on it. We booked online and in advance, and we were able to get our room for $180 a night with the AAA discount, which is an excellent rate for this type of hotel and the exceptional location. I hit a few concerts a year at the pavillion, and if its on a weekend, this will be my hotel of choice if i am staying over. Well done, Renaissance, very well done.
