We visited Boston for our very first time. The tour has a stop in the door of our hotel and we decided to use the first day.
It was a great idea since Boston has to many sites to visit, we took the ride to see all the main sites, and the other days we used the subway.
These trolley tour has 20 stops and you can hop off and on in any of them.
For example we hopped off at Cambridge and walked to the Cambridge GallerIa and then took the trolle back to ride through the historic places and return yo the hotel.
They give you 2nd day ride for free.
Additionally some trolleys were full but it was a short time waiting for the next one.
The only issue we had was with the heavy traffic in Boston downtown a Friday afternoon, so you have to take hat in consideration..

Great service, ability to hop on and off, getting second consecutive day free - sadly we weren't aware of this.

We were excited about the possibilities of a tour that we could take at our pace, jumping on and off at various points and adding a boat tour and museum visit. Unfortunately, after two days, the miscommunication between the trolley drivers caused us to waste valuable time and money. We started off ok...bought 2 tickets, added on the tea party museum, for a total of $95. Jumped on the first trolley that came and were on our way. Although I appreciate that each driver has their own personality, the begging for tips became overbearing. Name tags, copies of evaluation sheets, hat buckets of money at the exit overflowing with money already, remember my name speeches, etc. became so tacky.
We wanted to visit Harvard and knew we'd need to get off the trolley and take the subway. As we exited, the driver said to talk to "the guy" standing on the sidewalk. OK...so the guy, in street clothes, was our only help. The trolley was gone he was not helpful. We went across the street and 2 more employees were sitting on the bench counting huge piles of cash and they couldn't tell us. Then we went down into the subway, tried to buy tickets but didn't know what "zone" Harvard was in, found someone that knew what zone but then bought inbound instead of outbound, asked a student...I could go on and on but the point is that the trolley personnel were unable to guide or answer our questions. We bought tickets for the wrong routes. We returned to the trolley stop and helped another couple at the same starting point. Trolleys were overcrowded, one overheated and we had to switch, no body ever checked our tickets. I think the trolley system is fine, I would just go with a different company next time. We ended up walking most of the way, anyways.

We only had from 10am to 3pm to experience as much of Boston as we could. We chose to go on the Old Town Trolley Tour and it was an excellent choice! The trolley stopped one-half block from our hotel. They made 21 stops in all. We only had time to get off at two of the stops. We got off to go on the boat tour of the harbor (which is included in the price) and then again, at one of the stops downtown. We walked around downtown for a while and got to see the start of the Freedom Trail; the original Cheers and one of the city parks. The guides were excellent on each of the three trolleys we were on.
I wish we would have had more time to spend in Boston! What an amazing city, with so much history. We will go back someday and when we do, we will choose the Old Town Trolley as our guide!

This trolly tour was recommended by our hotel and we are so glad it was! We used the trolly for two days, getting on and off at different stops and seeing different attractions depending on what worked with our family at the time. The guides were all fantastic however Boston Bob and Giovani were our favourites. They all add their own little twist to the history they tell you as you drive around town and are quire humorous. They are also great at navigating through the crazy Boston traffic. The first day we almost never waited for a trolly longer than 2 or 3 minutes. The second day was a bit of a disaster on that front as there were several accidents around Boston and it was the first day of construction on the bridge that goes to cambridge so traffic was backed up all over town. On the second day we had to wait as several full trolly's passed us by but the operators were all very courteous and appologetic. When we were on a full trolly that was passing other clients at stops, we could see how hard the operators were working to try to coordinate pick ups (through the radio) at the fuller stops. This tour was also great value and we got entrance to the Boston Tea Party Museum (a definite must do, I'd even go there again instead of the aquarium) and a harbour cruise. Normally you get one or the other with your tickets but apparently if you buy them through your hotel you get both as a hotel special. Even visiting Boston for a second time I would do this tour again.
