“Early Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013 via mobile

We had heard how frenzied Toro has become, so we planned our visit as they opened their doors for lunch on Columbus Day. Despite arriving before opening time (noon) guests were already seated but fortunately the restaurant was still wide open and tame. The place has a great vibe - nice music and atmosphere - and the wait staff is efficient and helpful.
We ordered gambas, jamon, uni sandwich, grilled corn, patatas, tomato bread, smoked tuna belly and empanadas. Everything was divine. Washed it down with a frosty Naragansett beer and we floated out before the crowds started to arrive.
Highly recommend Toro. I know most people will have difficulty arriving early enough to have the zen experience we did but it is well worth any reasonable waiting challenges, if you're up for it!

Thank Harandy

“Trendy tapas hotspot”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

Only go if you have time to kill or want the early-early bird special, since there are no reservations and the place is already buzzing at 6pm on a Saturday night. 1.5 hour wait seems to the be usual. Nice interior, food presentation, and customer service. I'd recommend the sangria and croquettas. Some of the tapas, however, including the shrimp, were oversalted. Overall a nice meal, but I don't know if it's worth the wait. Also, the restaurant is really dark, so if your eyesight isn't good, bring glasses and a flashlight app.

“Food, fun and frenzy”

Love this place. As one reviewer said, some dishes can be oily. On the other hand, if you order a variety of things (corn is an absolute must) seafood and beef, you will leave a happy person. It's crowded for a reason-- a great place, but go at off times. 5:00 or lunch time.

“3.5 - decent tapas restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013

Went into Toro before going to the theatre - around 6 o'clock - and the restaurant was buzzing. We had 5 tapas dishes in total (2 each and one to share). My partner has a severe dairy allergy and the waitress was very good telling us what my partner could and could not have and highlighted any potential points of cross-contamination so a big plus on that front.
Food-wise my partner ordered the slow-cooked beef brisket with prunes and hazelnuts (it did come with pureed sweet potato but that contained dairy) and the cauliflower with pine nuts, golden raisins and pimenton de la vera (smoked Spanish paprika) and I ordered the garlic prawns with cascabel chillies (medium-heat 'rattle' chilli) and the hanger steak with cabrales butter (blue cheese butter) and red onion marmelade. We shared the patatas bravas which were lovely and crispy and came with good mayonnaise and tomato sauce. My partner's beef was the best dish of the lot and the prawns a close second. The prawns came in a very buttery sauce - not what I normally expect from a Spanish prawn dish but was good nonetheless. The cauliflower was not so successful as it was drenched in oil - good idea but oil was the dominant taste. The hanger steak was cooked nicely but the pairing with the cabrales butter and red onion marmelade didn't work for me but that could be personal taste.
The service was good with water glasses being refilled at regular intervals. The only thing I didn't like about the restaurant (although this seems to be a feature in many busy Boston restaurants) was the bar-like atmosphere in the restaurant with 'background' music becoming more dominant as the evening went on.
