“Very busy - loud”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013 via mobile

We ate outside on a windy night and that didn't help. We spilled 1/2 of a drink due to menu getting out of control and they didn't offer to top off or comp
Service was good not great and food took a while to arrive (again, they were busy). We were a party of 4 and some dishes were better than others

“Noisy inside - windy outside”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

Arrived at 2:00 p.m. on a hot and very windy Sunday. Unpleasantly loud inside. We sat outside and frequently swept grit from our eyes and plates. Can't help the weather, but the volume of noise inside made the outside the lesser of two evils.

A hamburger with fries was fine but not memorable. It came out medium well, not the medium rare that was ordered. The thin sliced onions and three slices of tomato were a nice surprise.

The lox with toasted bagel and bits were very good. Everything was very fresh with strong natural tastes, except the lox and capers, both of which were just right. The capers were large with just the bitter tangy and bitter that so well with the salty salmon, pink throughout and free of any brown patches or edges.

Drinks were fine. Water and ices tea were replenished regularly. The wait Staff did a good job.

We will probably return and try some of the Italian dishes to be fair, after all.

“Wow - incredibly disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

We've been to Stella before, and it used to be good.
Since they opened in 2005, they've had a "vibrant bar scene" and have a great outdoor space for a Summer night's dining.
Start with the positive: if you're going to go to Stella, stick to the pasta or pizzas and order wine (a very cheap Amarone - $56 - that was wonderful).
Everything else last night was a disaster. The service was uninformed and poor, the cocktails were actually so bad that we started laughing about them - hardly any liquor and tasted like bad pre-made, straight-from-a-mix joke. Horrible. (Nothing like the cocktails we had there a few years ago....so maybe it was just a very, very off night for the bartender?)

The Caesar salad lettuce was tinged with brown, and SWIMMING in the sauce (literally - almost a soup). The signature Beet Salad was also swimming in the tangy vinegar marinade. Neither of us (both salad lovers) ate half of our salads.

Then the server came over and - reeking of bleach - wiped down the table (into our laps) and put down fresh silverware: right onto the now-soaking-with-bleach table top.

We split a very good pasta as the next course. This is what you should get if you decide to eat here.

For entrees, my husband had the pork (basically a fried veal-parm-like concoction) and I have the short rib. Both were acceptable, but kind of ordinary. Not bad...I just should have stuck to the pasta.

The upshot: we went here because Trip Advisor rated it more highly than some other restaurants in the area. That's why I'm writing. Usually we can count on TA, and this time it was way off.

“Getting better...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

I ate here about a year ago and had a terrible experience, both with service and food. Celebrating a friends birthday recently, we decided to give it another try. I have to say the service and food were greatly improved.

Appetizers all around, all just delicious. Same with our mains. Just yummy. The service was good.

The restaurant had a good buzz. My only complaint was the restaurant was too warm. We were all sweating!

Wow. Wow.wow. Went on a recommendation from someone I don't know well..... Was fabulous. Nice intimate space. Waiter was a bit aloof but food compensated greatly. Seafood risotto and chocolate torte with vanilla gelatto were amazing..... So was the tequila cocktail..... Just a grand meal!
