“Good atmosphere, good drinks”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

Can't speak about the full meals, as my friends and I only had some drinks and shared the cheese plate, but overall very good.

The ambiance in nice and we were able to get a spot at the tables near the bar. Not sure if it was an off night, but it took at while for a drinks to arrive. One of our friends food came after the appetizers. However, the drinks were worth the wait! .

The cheese plate was tasty, but not really enough for three people to share considering the price. Overall very good- will have to go back and try a full meal.

“Great atmosphere, weird menu”
Reviewed January 5, 2014 via mobile

The feel and atmosphere of this restaurant was great, very classy. The beer/wine selection was great and they bring the can to your table which was neat. We got the charcuterie appetizer which was delicious, but for my main course I had the beet salad, which was not what I was expecting at all. I was planning on skipping the smoked salmon part since I prefer my meat cooked anyways, but the dressing on the rest of the salad was disgusting and I thought it would have spring lettuce or arugula, but all that was on the plates were a few sprouts. I would not recommend. However, my brother got the steak and fries and said it was delicious. The lunch menu was just a little weird to begin with because it had a mix of egg meals, French toast and then salmon and steak. Anyways it was a pleasant visit but the beet salad was a no go.

“Bad Food for a High Price”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

We ate breakfast at the Eastern Standard and though we loved Commonwealth Hotel we were truly disappointed with their restaurant. The food was bad and the prices were very high. We will not be going back...

“So Much More Than Standard”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

We've eaten at Eastern Standard a number of times. The most recent visit confirms that it always lives up to expectations. There are no big surprises, just consistently good food and service. It's the kind of place that you can walk into solo and have an interesting conversation at the bar, or enjoy a meal and a book. It's also the kind of place you can have a romantic evening or enjoy with a group of friends.

Always high on my list is the frisee salad with lardons and sweetbreads. The bone marrow is also terrific. They make a steak tartare that's full of beef flavor and not overloaded with shallots or onions, and the roasted half-chicken is juicy and enough for two. The bar whips up a mean cocktail. Try the Narragansett for something a little different. Service is always first-rate.

Eastern Standard is a reliable spot that always exudes an energetic, welcoming vibe.

“Are there twice in one day.”
Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

Great bistro--knowledgeable staff, terrific food. Sat at bar and in dining room and was impressed by the service in each. Had duck confit, a frise salad with a perfectly poached egg, steak frites. The house carafe of white and red was excellent.
