Saw a lot of whales, very close! But be carefull if you order your tickets trough their website, you will have to print the e-ticket, or you will have to queue to get a standard ticket. PDF is not accepted (e.g. on my iPad).

“One of the Best of Boston!”
Reviewed April 26, 2012

I had no idea when planning my trip to Boston that you could whale watch in Boston! Or, that when I did through the New England Acquirium I would get a quality, clean, comfortable and reasonably priced four hour whale watch (and dolphin watch) for about 40.00 per person. That is half the price of a watch in the carribbean and we saw twice as much! You can book online through the acquirium website, board the ship at the dock right outside the acquirium, and go any day of the week! You can purchase food and drink on the boat and there are several bathrooms on board too! The boat is of good size and is a comfortable smooth ride! We saw seven whales and countless dolphins. The views of Boston from the sea were also amazing and worth the trip alone.

“fun, but not amazing”
Reviewed April 25, 2012

It takes about 1 hour to reach the Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary + time to get out of the harbor, so you end up searching for and watching wales for about 1 hour in a 4 hour trip. I got to see dolphins, humpback and fin whales. Dolphins seemed to be having fun and followed the boat to many places. At times, 8 of them surfaced together, which was really cool! The whales we saw were fun to see, but set your expectations correctly. You see them blowing air out of the water and gently moving. If you're lucky, you get to see their tail before they go for a dive. Don't expect to see them like you do at parks with their clear tanks and shows.

The staff warned _multiple times_ that waves were high (at times 6 feet, according to them) and thus, they _strongly encouraged_ motion sickness medicine (Dramamine). Sure enough, many people got sick thinking they didn't need it. If you've never experience high waves in the ocean and isn't sure if you'll be OK or not, just take the medicine! It's not worth being seasick for 4 hours and basically wasting your money away. Many of those people looked miserable for those long hours.

“Wrong time of year”
Reviewed April 20, 2012

Maybe we didn't get the best of trips. the weather was O.K. but was quite a long way to get out to the whales, dolphins and porpoises and then only spent 30 minutes there. Trip wasn't helped by the large amount of people being sick. Fortunately the smell wasn't too bad.

“Terrible”
Reviewed April 9, 2012 via mobile

I have been on whale watching trips out of Boston before. On this occasion we researched thoroughly before booking with the Boston Aquarium. Obviously the success of any trip depends on many features beyond the control of the company, however, they make a great play of 'guaranteed' sightings emphasizing that they have the best equipment to locate the whales. We saw nothing! The boat was very over-crowded and uncomfortable. The captain seemed over-anxious to get out to the site as fast as possible so that he could return for the afternoon trip. Consequently, the journey was unnecessarily rough with many passengers being sick. Once at the 'best' location we floated for about ten minutes, then the boat turned around and headed back, having seen nothing. The trip was very disappointing and spoiled our visit to Boston, the sole purpose of which was to enjoy some 'guaranteed' whale watching. Book with one of the smaller independent vessels if you want to have a better experience.
