Many of the reviews of this hotel complain about the size of the rooms and the stark nature of the decor, but to be honest you can't complain given the price you pay for the location. The rooms are small by US standards, but the bedding and bathroom were clean, nice toiletries and staff were really helpful. The complimentary breakfast has now gone, but there are plenty of local cafes to meet such a need. If you're in visiting Boston for a few days and don't intend spending much time in your room it's perfect - and the profits are going to a good cause (YWCA).

We spent a Memorial Day Weekend in Boston. 140 Hotel represents an affordable option, in a great location. For 139$ a night, we got a spacious room on 14th floor that was furnished in an old style. The windows faced a quiet street. We were nicely surprised to discover that there was a fully complete kitchenette too, that included a stove, a microwave, and a refrigerator! Another surprise was to discover a theater on the second floor of the building. We took advantage of it and saw a great play "Blithe Spirit" (by N Coward) there. The downsides included not the greatest cleanliness, a small bathroom (where the sink was close to get obstructed), and poor breakfast. I would advice NOT to get breakfast there but to reserve a room alone. Overall, the experience was a pleasant one.

While the location can't be beat be wary of this hotel. I was given an upgrade to a suite (usually makes me very happy) but while the space was terrific--large sitting room/kitchen and large bedroom, it lacked many features that make a room comfortable. The lighting was sub-par--the large sitting room had only one floor lamp--no lamp on the desk, or any overhead lights to dispel the gloom. The same for the bedroom which admittedly did have 2 lamps but the only table lamp was not anywhere near the bed. Instead of a nightstand there was an orange vinyl kitchen chair to perch your glass of water, book or whatever. Don't expect to be able to read in bed here.
Ladies better understand that the only mirror was the small one over the sink. As a matter of fact there was nothing on any of the walls except a forlorn wall clock--no art, mirrors or anything in way of decor.
The bathroom was very small but functional (it was the passageway between the sitting room and bedroom) except for the suprising omission of a hook or rack to place your wet towels. This became more of an issue as i was suprised to learn --on my second day at the hotel--that these suites are not given regular housekeeping service.
The bed was fine and the room very quiet but the lack of curtains or drapes--only wooden blinds which let in a considerable amount of morning sunlight-might disturb a light sleeper.
If you are paying rock-bottom prices the place will serve well, but as I was paying more than $200 per night I expected something better.

Yes, it's small, but how much time do you spend in a hotel room when you're in a city as exciting as Boston? Those who complain about the size must live in their rooms! My wife and I were very pleased. It was clean (I've stayed at some 5-star places that were filthy!) and the people at the front desk were very helpful -- from early baggage storage to helping us navigate Boston via the subways. You couldn't ask for a better location. It is central to all that is happening in Boston. I would recommend it highly! Besides, it was an easy walk to Fenway!

There is NO WAY this merits 3 stars - lets begin with the linoleum floors in the hallway and room I had (824) the minature spot for hanging clothes - their idea of a closet is wall pegs behind the door - since room is MINISCULE don't bring much as there will be no storage. It resembled a cross between a college dorm room and a hospital room.

I have stayed in and enjoyed other boutique hotelsl, and this is a joke.

No bed side table, wiggly lamp with sub par lighting. Too dim to read in bed.

Sink in bathroom is so small you barely have space to store a toothbrush

When I checked out early, no one even blinked or asked why...I guess this is a common occurance for them.

This hotel is the best value for dollar you will find in any big city. Great location. Comfortable rooms. Friendly & helpful staff. All for a price anyone can afford. We travel a lot, and this is my best find yet.
