Freshest oysters you can find anywhere, and did I mention the AMAZING lobster rolls, and delicious clam chowder. Plus the scallops are really fresh and just plain AWESOME!! But it comes with a price.... We waited 4 hours for a Saturday dinner!!!! (pretty worth it though...)

I had heard that Neptune had the best lobster roll in town, so one day I went over for lunch thinking well why not. I had tried lobster rolls at two other restaurants nearby in the north end and just needed to be sure that this oyster bar had it down. If I had to discuss my qualifications it would be living in Camden Maine for the past 30 years. I've seen it. I sat next to the well-dressed gentlemen at the bar, turns out he's a doctor and was enjoying just exactly what I was going to enjoy, a lobster roll. I think he had french fries where as I chose a salad. The lobster roll and a typical hotdog bun was splayed out with delicious lobster in fact interesting lobster unlike any other I had experienced recently yes there is the claw pieces but this was a variety that was superb and the lobster had been sautéed in butter quick lee. In my dreams I imagined a lobster roll with lobster warm up and dripped with butter so that the bread could gather better juices in a mouthful. The salad was incredibly interesting greens maybe beat greens in addressing that included sautéed garlic. Yum 10. When I went to the men's room I noticed everyone in the room was eating a lobster roll. Ha ha. Expensive but a small restaurant doing it right.

Maybe I am spoiled, but I have to say it is a pretty standard oyster bar. I guess it's pretty famous for whatever reason.

I went by myself around 8:15 pm on a Monday night and was able to get on the list. It was about a 30 minute wait. By the time I sat down, they weren't taking anymore names for the list.

Oysters were great, the bartender were very informed about the different types of oysters. I also ordered their clam chowder. Different from others as it was less creamy (I did like it), filled with clams, but at some point I ate a bunch of empty shells. Unfortunately, they did not have any razor clams. So I went with the anchovies, which were great. Now the bad, the bluefin crudo - sub-standard, nothing special - so don't get it.

Overall, I think it's a nice, small place with beer and wine, pretty standard food, but definitely not worth the wait of more than 30 minutes. Unless you're trying to eat here, because they are "famous", I'm sure there are many more other places you can eat with very similar food. Trust me, even the bartender recommended other places.

I was skeptical about "the wait" and the "touristy" label offered by a local friend, but the "lobster" in the roll was divine. Go! If this is "touristy" may I find more like it along this journey.
