“Very Tasty”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2014

Neptune is a fantastic spot for fresh seafood. I've been going here since they opened, and every time it's great. The specials are always excellent, which rotate nightly. The shellfish are some of the freshest I've had away from the beach. My favorite is the vitello sandwich. Tuna tartar with sliced veal?? Unreal! Get there early if you don't want to wait on pretty much every night because it is very small (seats about 30-40)

“A top dining experience in Boston”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

Neptune is one of the few restaurants in Boston that combines above average food and atmosphere consistently. Don't be scared off by the small size and long wait, you just need to plan accordingly and show up at an off time or come with the expectation that you need to have a drink at one of the two bars across the street while you wait for your space at the bar or table. They will take your phone number and call you when it is time to come back so feel free to walk around or find yourself a bar.

Once inside, they are known of course for their oysters and raw bar but don't sleep on the hot entrees, each of which are among the best seafood dishes in a town full of them. One last tip is to make sure your raw bar order includes a couple of shrimp. I don't know how they cornered the market on jumbo shrimp but they have the biggest cocktail shrimps i've ever seen.

“Worth the wait”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

Neptune Oyster is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston. A small, tucked away location in the North End, you almost always need to show up early and put your name/number in then wait for 2-3 hours for a table. They will call you when its ready. Best hot lobster rolls I have ever had. I love going here, and only wish I did more often!

“Best Lobster Roll. Period.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

I think this is probably one of the best places to eat in Boston. Definitely tops in seafood. The menu is always changing and I have never been disappointed in my food choices here. The biggest draw is the hot lobster roll (with butter/no mayo). One of the best things I have EVER eaten. The place is super tiny and does not take reservations. So go in, give them your name and cell phone, and go have a drink in the area. They will call you when your table is ready. We usually have to wait at least one hour (especially if you have more than 2 people). So just plan for that and take time to enjoy the neighborhood while waiting.

“The best lobster roll!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

I take all my out-of-town friends and family to Neptune to taste the hot lobster roll! It is the perfect way to introduce them to New England! I have not found one that comes close to this. The melted butter on top of huge chunks of lobster meat is just unbeatable. Even though I wouldn't say this is somewhere I would go regularly, I think it is worth the wait if you are looking for a place to eat in the North End with a guaranteed good dish (hot lobster roll). I don't think many other places even serve warm lobster rolls (not cold, without mayo and celery mixed in), let alone one that is this delicious and meaty! I have also tried other dishes here (scallops, a whole fish dish) which are also quite good! The wait is almost always long, but you can leave your phone number with them and have a drink at a nearby pub. The atmosphere is cute if you don't mind crowded small spaces.
