“Right place, right time”

On arriving in Boston on a Saturday evening, my husband demanded 3 things - wings, beer and football. McGreevy's = job well done.

“Meh. It is what it is.”

Some people are probably endeared to this place. It's fine, sure. Just nothing out of the ordinary for an Irish pub.

Decent food. OK service. Mostly indifferent servers. Plus, the Red Sox beat the Cardinals in the World Series in their first meeting so I may be a little bitter.

It is what it is. Meh.

“only average sports-pub”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

we went there looking for a relaxing evening in a good pub.
First we noticed is there are at least 3 sportsevents on TV. That might be thoughtful as not everyone is into , lets say baseball, but whatever you watch you get distracted by the other events running in parallel.
Also the lighting did not make the place very cozy so i think that pub-feeling was also sacrificed to a better view on sports.
Beer and food where good but not good enough to make me choose that pub again over the other dozends of Irish pubs in Boston.

“Everything about McGreevys is excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2013 via mobile

We came here a few times on our trip to see the Red Sox play at Fenway and it was great. The staff are friendly, attentive and make you feel right at home. The food is amazing and if you are a Sox fan you will be in heaven!!

“Was a bit disappointed to watch a Red Sox game here”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

We had been to 3 games back to back the week we visited Boston and decided the last evening we would just watch the game from a local sports bar and googled and McGreevy's had high reviews for doing just that. We went there about a half hour before the game and had no problems getting a seat, which was odd if it's rated high for watching games. So we ordered food which was OK, not out of this world by any means and had a couple drinks. The game was on EVERY tv in the bar/restaurant which was cool but NO SOUND!!! Boy was a very disappointed. They instead had loud bar music playing and as I looked around (still with open seating available) there didn't appear to be anyone watching the game, but instead eating and talking and not a peep made on any plays made by the Sox. We left by the 3rd inning because I was bored stiff there as an AVID RED SOX FAN and decided we were hoping on the train over to Kenmore and trying out a bar over that way. We found a gem.....the Bleacher Bar on Landsdowne...PERFECT! They have SOUND on every tv and everyone is into the game and cheering. You and get drinks and food there and the best part which we had never known....there is a huge garage door/window from the bar onto the warning track in center field where you can watch the game. WOW....it was super cool. McGreevy's is fine to get food and drinks before a game, but don't bother thinking you're going to have a great time HEARING and watching a game there if you're truly a fan and want to hear what's going on play by play.
