“Very average, expected better”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

Spoiler Alert - look around, there are better options.

I took my wife and mother for dinner to Petit Robert Central before heading to the theater to see the Nutcracker together. We chose it because it had nice reviews and was more convenient than some of the other restaurants we considered.

Good - friendly waitstaff. We requested a booth seat when we made the reservation and they had a booth waiting for us when we arrived. We enjoyed the setting and location. The flatbread appetizer with shallots and mushrooms was tasty, and the soufflé for dessert was good. You need to allow about 25 mins for the soufflé, so plan to order it before finishing your main course.

Average - most of the meal was very average. I would have put value up in the "good" section as most dishes were fairly priced but there are plenty of other restaurants that offer much better food for the same price.

Not good - Food.

In retrospect, the roasted beet and goat cheese salad was as it appears in the image on the website. Unfortunately, I they didn't have a picture of it on the menu. I don't think the beets were roasted, at least you couldn't taste it if they were. There were no greens in the salad, it was more like a beet and cheese big mac with the beet being the bread. I will say that I was disappointed by the Sea Conch chowder with bacon and scallions, which was incredibly boring and lacked flavor, bacon, sea conch, and scallions as far as I could tell. Finally of note, the lightly poached scallops in creamy gruyere sauce was a heave dish that lacked elegance. The gruyere sauce was not creamy, but rather it was melted gruyere and not a sauce. As soon as the dish cooled, the cheese coagulated and hardened.

Bartender - was fine but didn't know how to make relatively simple and traditional drinks such as a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned.

I really want to like Petit Robert Central, but the food really needs to be better. I hope that they do take time to improve the quality and delivery of their product, otherwise they will end up like their predecessors at the same location.

“Great afterwork dinner spot!”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

I have been at this restaurant for several work sponsored events but finally made it for dinner. Although the place is not too fancy I was somewhat apprehensive to bring my 9 year old daughter there. But as it turns out, they even have kids menu with very delicious and healthy options. We had smoked salmon for appertizer, and lemon sole and scallops for dinner. The food was great and portions just right. They have a pastry chef so the desert selection was impressive. The adults skipped it but my daughter had sorbet (made in house) which comes in 3 different flavours. Champaign was her favourite. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. Service was great, food tasty and price reasonable.

“Nice for a quick bite to eat”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

We were short of time heading to the theater, but wanted food and a drink. This fit the bill perfectly! The four of us each ordered from the bar menu: three of us ordered the flat bread pizzas in different flavors, and one ordered the escargots. The pizzas were all delicious and there was plenty to share...a perfect small dinner before the show! The escargots were less well received as they seemed a bit overcooked without a lot of yummy garlic butter for bread-dipping. However, the bread was amazingly fresh, hot, crusty yet soft on the inside. The drinks were all good. The service seemed a little lacking since a dining room waiter was covering us in the bar, so was less than attentive and erred in giving us someone else's check, then was very slow to check us out. All in all, though, a wonderful find on the second floor of an office building on a holiday weekend Saturday night!!!

“Cheers ~ great Boston Happy Hour!”
Reviewed August 21, 2013 via mobile

We stopped in for cocktails and a light bite in the bar ~ wow! The service was friendly and prompt. We ordered drinks, then appetizers, then were graciously moved to a larger table to give us room to enjoy all Petit Robert Central had to offer: Bread, wonderfully prepared mussels, drinks, bruschetta... The place was pleasantly buzzing with many early evening Financial district stragglers.
