We have now dined at Delux twice and have had excellent experiences both times. It is a funky place to say the least, but the food is superb. I ordered the special, a pan-fried flounder which was incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked, served with a surprisingly flavorful polenta and green beans. Be advised that this is a cash-only establishment, which is why they can keep the prices so low. The service is friendly and efficient. It is a busy place for a good reason. Don't hesitate to wait if you can't get a table right away, the food and the overall experience are worth it!

My girlfriend and I ducked in here one night over Valentine's Day weekend. It's not a bad place. Very cozy. With a lot of Elvis 12" covers on the walls. Dimly lit, but not ridiculously so. We just sat, talked and had a couple. She had a glass of wine that was, apparently, decent. I can't even remember what it was. I just had a tallboy or two of Schlitz. Well priced. No fuss, no muss. A decent place to duck into on a cold, snowy night.

We live in the area, walk by "Delux" often and have never been inside. Big mistake! This is an amazing find. We entered into a crowded, vibrant, funky restaurant and were immediately greeted by a smiling server (the only server) who 1) told us we would be seated in 10 minutes and 2) asked us if we wanted something to drink. Within 10 minutes we were seated, wine in hand, perusing the very tempting menu. We ordered leg of duck confit and penne with home made sausage. Both were 'out of this world'. Why we had not been to Delux Cafe before this, I'll never know, but we will be back again and again. Did i mention the prices? Entrees were all $13.95 or less and ranged from chicken, to pasta, to duck to lots of specials. One point: remember to hit the ATM first as this is a 'cash only' place. Delux Cafe has not been reviewed here extensively, maybe that's because those in the know want to keep this gem a secret.

I've been dying to try Delux every time I walk by ... but it doesn't look like the kind of place a girl should walk in alone. Don't let the bad looks fool you. This "bad" South End dive is good (and seemingly quite harmless). By looks it's somewhere between college bar and biker bar, but the food is surprisingly delicious. The only challenge is, the cook must have literally run out of burners the night we were there. A party of six preceded us ... and we had to wait til they were served before our order could even be started. The waitress GENEROUSLY compensated with our round of beer on the house as well as a salad we ordered in desperation to tide us over. The trout was delicious, served with a very creative salad. My advice: Don't hesitate, walk right in!

Delux is easy to miss as you walk by as it blends in with the buildings around it, but this is one place you don't want to miss. The menu is one page, but has a good variety of options. Ambiance is funky as is the service, but you put up with it for a gourmet meal in the South End for ~$12.
