Upon approaching this cafe, I anticipated a simple location in which to have a quick breakfast with my daughter. My first encounter here was with an extremely unpleasant foreign woman who spoke in a harsh tone that made it quite difficult to understand. My daughter wished to have a bagel and asked the woman if there were salt bagels. The woman did not understand the question no matter how it was described, and after feeling the aura of frustration radiating from behind the countertop, my daughter asked for an everything bagel toasted with butter. I ordered a muffin, and the woman refused to butter the muffin for me because the muffins were fresh.

I received my muffin instantly, and my daughter waited patiently for her bagel. After a brief period of approximately five minutes, one of the workers called and said the bagel was ready. It was a plain bagel, which wasn't what we ordered. When requesting to get the everything bagel we ordered, the worker looked entirely shocked and disgusted and said "this is already done", when I said that it wasn't what I ordered, she consulted who appeared to be the manager. The worker then took an everything bagel out of a plastic bag (labeled with a brand, so it was certainly not freshly baked there), and made my daughter's bagel.

While enjoying our food, a bird entered the cafe and flew around our heads and all around the ceiling. At one point, it was even sitting on plates which were in the kitchen. No one working even turned a head. The bird literally stayed in the cafe the whole time we were there.

This place was most certainly not worth the locational convenience.

I would not go out of my way to visit this little cafe, but if you are in the Charlestown area it is worth the trip. I have eatend dinner here, a pretty good rueben panini. Each morning I go and get coffee there. Overall very reasonably priced by Boston standards.

I was staying around the corner for a week at The constitution Inn. I was walking to the new Spaulding rehabilitation hospital to visit my sister every day and always stopped here and got acupuncture of coffee and a breakfast sandwich. Had the Fresh Start every day sometimes on their amazing croissant and sometimes on one of the light and airy bagels! It was an egg, some sliced tomatoes sone baby spinach(raw) and goat cheese. Always great. Can't imagine anything is bad. No restaurants except for a pricey bistro around the corner so this place is a bargain. Looks like great sandwiches for lunch and all kinds of fresh baked muffins, pies and cakes and usually had home made lasagna in the take out case along with salads. Loved spending money at a locally owned business and not a chain.

They have fabulous breakfast sandwiches and good prices. I recommend going when you are not in a hurry, as it is a small place and you may be waiting a while if they are busy.
