“Good beer selection food OK”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

There is no parking lot, and given that parking is difficult in this area and you will need to find a public parking space if you arriving by car.

This place has a great selection of beers and a lot of character. The food is OK, but nothing special and if you have allergies you may have difficulty in finding something on the menu that meets say gluten and dairy free. This would be a great party place - it is a beer hall and I am sure it would have a great atmosphere. On a quiet weekend lunchtime it was a little disappointing.

Because it is an old building you may also have difficulty if you need wheeled access and the restrooms are far from modern.

“Surprisingly Good”
Reviewed February 14, 2014

This place was an easy walk from our hotel on a night when the temps were in single digits. We had our hearts set on seafood, but this place looked warm so we decided to give it a try. The place is one of the oldest restaurants in Boston, and really provides a laid back, casual atmosphere with some pretty good food and some really good beer. This isn't fine dining, but everything we tried was very good. They have a great selection of German food (obviously), but also some really good burgers, appetizers, and side dishes. There are lots of beers on tap - most of them German and most were new to me, so it was fun to sample our way through beer list. The crowd was younger, and seemed to be full of "regulars". Staff was friendly and accommodating, prices were very reasonable, and the atmosphere is quite interesting. It turned out to be surprisingly good and a nice change of pace in Boston.

“Authentic German”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

This place never disappoints. It's a fun, casual atmosphere. The cornbread is awesome. The beer selection is superb - we always go for the pitcher of Paulaner hefeweisen. Highly recommend the more German items on the menu - never once been disappointed. Spaezel and wursts!

“They German beer, yes, but that's about it”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

This place is a good time if your expectations aren't too high. The food is pretty standard bar food, but with decent German options too, which is good to add teh variety.

I was somewhat disapointed by their German beer selection. They have the basics, but I think I just had higher expectations. The service was OK.

“Bring on the Wursts--this place was a riot!”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

Went out as part of 3 couples pre-show. It was loud, but loads of atmosphere/good vibe. Love the twinkle lights everywhere. Beer list was AWESOME--impressive amount on tap. The food was good; better than expected. We wondered if it would be "too loud" sitting next to the piano (and would we like him?). Well, take a look at the photo: we had a RIOTOUSLY great time. The pianist was SUCH a champ, played all the greats, got the crowd swaying and singing, and brought our evening to an unexpected zenith!
