We went to this place after reading many trip advisor reviews. There are tons of italian restaurants in the North End and there are a few like Giacommo's and the Daily Catch that are on the main street and you will stand in line to get into. We didn't eat at either of those places so I can't comment on the food, but La Summa was located just off of the main street on a quiet street and we were able to sit down right away (we called for a reservation just about an hour before for a party of 10). The food was delicious. They have fresh pastas. The only complaint was that it was too hot in the restaurant. We were there on a very hot day and although the air conditioning was on, it did not feel like it. The small room in the back was cooler but couldn't accommodate our party. Several people in our party were so hot they couldn't really enjoy their meals which was a shame because the food was so good. So, beware on hot days. Otherwise, enjoy!

We were only in Boston one night, the hotel we were in was horrid, so we needed something to make it memorable. We wandered in here late, tired and stressed and they really looked after us. Too much wine and good food later Boston was the best city in the world. Thanks!

I took a girl on a first date here because it was one of the few restaurants she hadn't eaten at in the North End. We went on a Wed night and I made reservations Tuesday afternoon without a problem.

We didn't end up needing a reservation because the restaurant was pretty empty aside from three other tables, which was nice. I had the lamb, which was ok but nothing out of this world. The staff was good, they didn't rush us and I think they could tell we were on a first date so they made to leave us alone aside from checking in from time to time.

I don't think I'd go back there again simply because there are so many other restaurants in the area to try and the food wasn't mind blowing.

The only other thing I'd mention is that as soon as you walk in the door there is a 4x5 shelf filled with with family photos...which is slightly off-putting and in your face. Once you get past the front door though it's a very nice setup.

La Summa is one of the best restaurants we've been to in a long time. Not only was the food great (if you don't see it on the menu - ask). The staff made us feel like family. Great time. Great food. Great people. Fantastic experience. Would go back in a heartbeat.
