I've lived in the Boston area for about a year and have always seen a huge line out the door of Giacomo's when I'm in the North End. Finally decided to give it a try when family came to visit and we could actually get there are 4:30 PM to be at the front of the line. It was worth it! The food was delicious. It is a tiny shoebox of a space but the staff knows how to make it work and runs the place with amazing efficiency. Eating at Giacomo's is an experience well worth having; a great meal for a great price.

Thank goodness we started chatting to someone in the line otherwise we would have had no idea what was about to happen us and this review would have probably been a lot different!
First off, the restaurant opens at 4:30pm for dinner. We were there at 4:20pm (purely by coincidence) and there was already a line to the end of the block!
The first seating went in and then we were asked how many were in our party and then just stood there on the street waiting for our turn! We only waited about 30 minutes before we were squeezed into a tiny, loud restaurant in very close proximity to everyone else!
This is a cash only restaurant so come prepared - failing that, there is an ATM right across the street.
We were also told that they will not seat you unless your whole party is there so don't go wandering off!
Be prepared to be rushed - we were in and out in about 25 minutes - no lie! But it was really all part of the experience!
The veal and lobster ravioli were delicious and we would definitely go back to Giacomo's if we were in the area.
PLUS - if you really need dessert afterwards, head to Mikes Pastry just up the street (although be prepared to wait in a long, but fast moving, line there too!!)

Thankfully we never ate lunch so we were starving by the time we got to Giacomo's at 5 pm on a Monday afternoon. We got the last table. It is an amazing place. Everything is fresh, local! Service is great. I would wait in line to eat there. There was a huge line when we left on a cold rainy March monday. Very close quarters- you sit inches away from others but I will go back. Amazing Italian seafood choices!

What they lack in space, they make up for in service and food. We waited outside in line for the 4:30 opening when a waitress came out and asked about the number in each of our groups. Then we were herded in to our assigned tables with military precision. The menu was on the wall with specials written on a sheet of paper given to each table. As the waitress took appetizer orders she called them out to kitchen staff who began grabbing pans and ingredients. This place is tiny and people are shoehorn ed in but the pricing, variety and quality of the dishes make the wait and cozy seating irrelevant. We got the calamari appetizer, shrimp and lobster fusilli and veal parmigiano with a bottle of chianti and it was excellent.
Though we didn't feel rushed, we were in and out in less than an hour so don't go here if you want to linger. However, when you are a tourist with sights to see and places to be, this place fills the bill.
Our waitress was all business yet she was
friendly and informative. Without her telling us that whales were very plentiful right now, we would not have scheduled today's whale watching cruise.
So make this a stop if you want great Italian at a reasonable price but don't want to waste valuable sightseeing time.

My husband and I were visiting Boston for the first time and stumbled across Little Italy. This Italian girl could not be more excited. As we walked one evening we spotted this very long line outside a tiny restaurant. I decided we would eat there before leaving Boston. Our last night there we headed to Giacomo's. We were prepared for a long wait in line and it was over an hour. It allowed us to make friends in line. We were rushed in and seated. After that point, the staff did not rush us, but I felt rushed looking a the line that was just as long as when I had arrived (it was now after 9:00 pm). However, the wait was worth it! The calamari was fabulous and the wine prices were very reasonable. I had the Lobster Ravioli and like other places that throw chunks of lobster in the sauce this was actually in the ravioli. My husband had the veal marsala and raved about it. The portions were generous and we had left-overs. Large parties are hard to accommodate. Cash Only.
