“Fantastic lunch in Boston”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2008

We had the prix fixe lunch the day before Thanksgiving at the resto's new digs. I suspect it might be possible to find better food and service to accompany such extraordinarily good food, but I don't know where we'd find it. AND by the way, the prix was $35. WHAT A DEAL! The wine prices are a tad pricey, but -- realistically -- they have to make a buck somewhere. And we want them to. To lose such a great foodie resource would be unthinkable!

“Special Occasion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2008

This is a resturant for a special occasion.

The service achieves the right balance, attentive without being oppresive.

They do the nice little welcome extras that you don't see much anymore.

I think the portions should have been 20% greater

“Superb food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2008

We've had several meals at L'Espalier over the years and have always been delighted. Absolutely first-rate food and service. Perfect for special occasions. It's expensive but given the quality it's really a bargain.

(I'd eat there more often but it's an hour and a half drive each way.)

“For a Celebration Meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2008

My son took there last night for my birthday. I've been there many times since it first opened on the second floor of an office building on Boylston between Arlington and Berkeley around 1975. It's been through several owners since. Although I miss the ambience of the townhouse on Gloucester Street, this new location works very well. The acoustics are great, since I am hard of hearing and can't always understand what is being said to me. Now the food. Everything was delicious. Service was excellent. Plenty of wait staff, and they all seemed to know what they were doing. It is expensive, but well worth the price for a special occasion..
