Top-notch food and service, but prohibitively expensive. However, there's a workaround: three-course prix fixe lunch is only $25.

BEST food in Boston. Period. If you have the $300-400 to spend on the most amazing meal of your life, this place is totally worth the big bucks.

L'Espalier is my absolute favorite restaurant here in Boston. We only really go once or twice a year, but its always the most memorable of meals. Extremely romantic with service that is the envy of Boston. Frank McClelland has recently received the 2007 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Northeast Chef. Along with numerous accolades received through the years, L'Espalier gives 5 star Boston restaurants something to dream for. I'm sad that Gloucester will be closing, but looking forward to the grand opening at the Mandarin Oriental in 2008.

Really nice French food. I think the best restaurant in Boston, and for the price it should be. Comparable to French Laundry in Napa, but not quite in the same league. Good for very special occasions, I got engaged there.
