“A nearly perfect dinner experience. The hostess was the only flaw.”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

That is if you are two of the same gender, as in female gender ! This small and quaint restaurant was recommended by both the hotel we stayed at and by a Bostonian friend who is a regular. A short walk from the hotel, my 75-yr old mother and I strolled in the area on a lovely Tuesday evening, until our scheduled reservation (courtesy of hotel). The hostess proceeded to seat us at a small table for 2, in the back, closest to the kitchen …, when 3 larger tables were readily available. The couples already dining were seated at these larger tables which in fact seat 4. Most disappointing to note that the following couples (yes, man & woman) were each seated on the remaining prime tables (of 4 !). Two of those did not have a reservation.

A shame this detrimental and petty attitude prevails at Terramia as the cuisine is authentic and its tiramisu absolutely heavenly. Why do women have such a bad rap in restaurants ? I am often reprimanded to leave too much of a tip. Am I the exception to the rule?

“Truly incredible pastas”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

We recently dined here as a party of 6, and it was for a "big" occasion--my parents meeting my fiance's parents for the first time. The staff accommodated my request for a "quiet" table (in recognition of the needs of the 60somethings), and seated us at a cozy round table tucked into an alcove-like space at the front of the restaurant. The smaller table/space was perfect (but would have been a problem if any of us had been larger than below-avg size). The appetizers and pasta dishes were truly excellent. We split the lobster fritters and arancini for the table, and both were wonderful. All the pasta dishes I sampled were heavenly, including the bombolloti, bolognese, and the risotto del giorno (during our visit, a lobster & crab). Wine list was a bit sparse, but we found a bottle (or 2!) we were pleased with. Wish I could report on the desserts, but we were so satisfied with our meal that we didn't need to try any of them.

“Best of the North End”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

I live in Boston and have been here for 20 years (original New Yorker). This is our favorite restaurant in an area that that has lost it's unique character due to gentrification. The food is fabulous and it's a cozy little joint off Hanover and away from the mobs at Modern Pastry.

“FANTASTIC dining experience! Bellisimo!!!!!”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

Dined here Valentines Day. A very reasonably priced 5 course set menu. Great selections. Service was attentive yet not obtrusive. Our waiter (Gabriel) and bus (Jorge) took really good care of us and made their recommendations as to what to have based on offerings. They were right on the mark.
We had 6:30 reservations and arrived at 6:20. Hostess offered the deuce by the door but noticed that a deuce by the wall was just about to leave. She asked if we minded waiting while they cleared and we said no problem. So we ended up at a cozy four top by the wall.
A wonderful restaurant and we can't wait to return to order from their regular menu. A nice cozy side street off of Hanover. Great, great spot! You MUST go!!!

“Better than average, and there's a lot of average in the North End.”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

My wife and dropped in on a cold Friday night; luckily we were early enough to get seated without a reservation. I have calamari, perfect. She had gnocchi. Wonderful. And we shared a great bottle of wine which I had never seen before, Zipolino. Service was great, and we left happy. We will return!
