“Very good.”

We has a lovely evening with friendly and efficient service. A glass of prosecco, with yummy ricotta crostini was an excellent start. Then the appetizers were disappointing. My crispy eggplant was dried out and my husband's pork belly lacked flavor. As for entrees, my tagliolini bolognese was excellent and my husband 's chicken just OK. The wine menu is Italian with many interesting selections but well marked up.

“Not *quite* as good as I'd remembered ....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

You have to give restaurants a break during Restaurant Week. Though you're there to give something new a try, and they OUGHT to be offering their very best effort, I can see that it's hard to judge a restaurant based on their (usually) limited Restaurant Week menu. This was my second visit to Via Matta ... the first one, several years ago was surprisingly, delightfully outstanding. This one, a little less so. That said, it's a very fine restaurant. (I actually had the same waiter as last time ... that says a lot for the restaurant.) The starter, pea soup, could have been a little ... more. But the crab in it was lovely. The salmon was wonderfully seasoned and the cold cucumbers as well ... and were a nice surprise. I would definitely go back and give it a third try.

“Content”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

We wanted to share some antipastis. So we ordered grilled octopus ( delis), salad ( tasty with enough dressing but not oily) proschutto ( very good), small mozzarella ( very tasty). Wine and sangria were good too. Portions were enough to feed the three adults as we had had a full meal at lunch. Choco mousse and tiramisu were both a feast in itself.
Service was very good. Careful, thoughtful and quick!

“Away from the Crowds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

In the heart of beautiful downtown Boston, and yet away from the crowds on Boylston & Newbury, this nice Italian restaurant is tucked away in Park Plaza. The food is delicious (scallop & shrimp pasta was yummy) and the service is very friendly. There's outdoor seating as well. Thumbs up for Via Matta!
