“Go for the ambience, but eat elsewhere”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

This old Boston bar in the Fairmont Copley is a must-see, as far as I am concerned, if only for its Gilded Age charm. A great place to stop for a drink or snack before or after dinner, or while touring this part of Boston. While the food looked good, I thought it seemed over-priced for what it was, and was not tempted to eat here.

“They Need Help!”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

A new restaurant needs good balance. Food, service, ambience. Lunch recently was just OK. We sat at the bar upon arrival. How can you possibly be served an $18 martini and not get a chilled glass? The same is true with draft beer. If the bartender (wrinkled shirt, holes in jeans) is the face of this establishement, someone needs to reassess the dress policy. As you peer up to the ceiling you are in old Boston and the Oak Room. Regular eye level brings you to contemporary modern design of glass, chrome, copper topped bar and coordinated fabric. Be prepared for sticker shock when the bill arrives, not because of the price, because in your mind you didn't receive value and impeccable bar service. Our table waiter was exemplary, (he had a grey jacket with red elbow patches). They need time to "get the bugs" out.

Hello, and thank you for sharing your feedback with us here on TripAdvisor. While I’m pleased to hear that you enjoyed the ambiance and table service, I’m very sorry that your bar experience was less than exemplary. I do hope you’ll consider giving us another try in the future. Thank you, again, for your comments.

“Clam Chowder”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

Lunch here was fabulous and had the best fresh clam chowder I've tasted in years. Nice servers, get a seat at the bar as it's very friendly and chatty.

“Excited to experience new Oak Room. However, terrible service...”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

We were very excited to go since we had always loved the old Oak Room. However, the experience was not good. The service was terrible. We had to talk with a manager to get help. Out waitress was beyond rude and just overall, unpleasant. It was unfortunate....Not sure we will go back. Terrible service should never correspond with high prices.
