My wife & I *really* wanted to do Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe but being Sunday, they were closed. Found this spot tks to various online reviews. Easy T ride from Copley. Close to Broadway T stop. Small, busy (for obvious reasons) lots of locals. Friendly waitress. GREAT homefries. Usually I look at homefries as "filler" (think piles of fries w/seafood platters) but these were on par w/eggs & bacon. Seasoned to perfection.
We stayed in the waterfront district but weren't too enthused about paying hotel prices for breakfast. Six out of seven days, I took the 3/4 mile walk from the Weston Boston Waterfront to My Diner. It was a hangout for the neighborhood police, which was a great indication of good food. The prices were comparable to a diner in small-town Minnesota.
They are known for their french toast, but also featured is a low-carb breakfast with some amazing Italian sausage.
Walking to My Diner was a great way to get a little exercise and enjoy good food at a reasonable price. South Boston has its own culture and it would be a shame to miss out on this part of the experience.
If you are visiting Boston, buy a transit pass (a must for sightseeing anyway) and take the red line to Broadway Station. My diner is a block away.
This is a no-nonsense diner in Southie that delivers its promise of a simple hearty breakfast and lunch. There's no fuss and loads of good hearted atmosphere with really good coffee and a menu that allows all sorts of combinations as well as straight a la carte. Not many places do a good poached egg.....theirs was perfect.
