We went here for a late lunch, the oysters were really good. The wine was ok, the beer was cold. Interesting to hear the Boston/New England accents. The staff was nice but also had that New England attitude. Neat experience.

Don't walk by, this is the place to be. Visitors from around the world to talk with and knowledgeable bar tenders to talk to while they shuck oysters and clams. The menu is very limited at the bar but it doesn't matter. I sit down, have a local craft beer, and enjoy the company. Took my 3 1/2 year old daughter for the first time and everyone was great with her. I never miss a stop when in Boston.

I can't praise the food and ambience enough. Considered the oldest restaurant in the USA and has so much history. It also has had some very famous people visit and was an eating favorite of JFK. They now have the JFK booth upstairs. They Oysters are not as good as the ones that you get in New Orleans but they are still good never the less. The Steamers are amazing as is the clam chowder.

If you can get a seat at one of the bars and have the oysters shucked in front of you, do so. Good experience. Highly recommend - its a must.

We went here for Mother's Day expecting a delicious meal; what we received was an extremely tasteless meal. I had the broiled scallops which I expected to be succulent and delicious. They were flavorless, bland, and just plain terrible. The side of broccoli had no seasoning and seemed to be taken right out of the grocery store - not steamed, not cooked, nothing. The other side was very bland sweet potatoes. My daughter had the club sandwich - very average - nothing special. Also, the service was terrible, The waitress seemed like she was trying to get us served and out of the place. All in all, for the price we paid, I was EXTREMELY disappointed, especially for Mother's Day.

This is a must visit while in Boston, if for nothing else than to see the names of all the famous people that have eaten there. Had their oysters on the half shelf and they were good. But nothing to them other than the shocking which is enough. My husband had the seafood chowder. Could have used some sherry in it, but otherwise pretty good. Service was ok, but definitely a place with character. Would recommend checking out.
